“Go ahead and pay cash on delivery. She has another delivery coming–don’t keep her waiting.” 

Sure enough, the delivery driver stood nearby, looking 

anxious and awkward. 

Matteo paid without hesitation–even tipped $100. The driver 

was thrilled. 

Then Matteo opened the box eagerly. 

“So you’re ready to make up, then. Faye worked overtime for three months to save up for my Valentine’s Day gift.” 

“I told her something simple was fine, but she insisted I shouldn’t feel shortchanged… some things you just can’t 

reason with her about.” 

“Wait… watches? Cufflinks? Wait… these look familiar…” 

His face darkened as he pulled out familiar items one by one. 

Finally, he saw a small box holding a single rose. It had been our most meaningful symbol. 

Matteo once gave me a rose. I’d joked, “I don’t want roses- they die. But I don’t want our love to die either.” 

He’d smiled proudly. “Then I’ll give you a rose that never 

fades.” 

He’d bought a rare red moonstone at a pack auction, cut it himself, and set it in fine crystals and diamonds. 

I once thought that meant Matteo loved me. 

I was naive—I didn’t know love didn’t come first for him. 

I didn’t realize his pride, insecurity, and stubbornness always 

came before love. 

So this rose would never fade. 

But the hand holding it would eventually let go. 

Because to Matteo, freedom, respect, and trust mattered more 

than love. 

In the video, Matteo completely broke down. 

He smashed everything, ignoring the cost, as if attacking an 

enemy. 

His friends held back laughter and tried to calm him, “It’s just a breakup. Worst case, find someone else. Look on the bright side–this proves Faye isn’t after your money.” 

[Looks like Matteo still loves you. See how upset he is?] Lily’s voice sounded smug. 

But I didn’t believe Matteo loved me. 

If he loved me, why wasn’t he angry when his friends insulted me? 

He was tolerant and gentle with them, never raising his voice. 

Even when they talked about me behind my back, he still hung 

out with them. 

They were his brothers. I was just a topic to laugh about. 

Love, everyone called it? 

It was nothing but a fool’s gold. 

That night, Matteo posted on social media, officially 

announcing his relationship with Daphne.

As if sending me a message, he added: [Even if she regrets it, I

All of Matteo’s friends liked his post–except Rafael. 

A minute later, Rafael posted on his story: [Ugh, I hatepeople who overdo it.] 

Matteo commented instantly: [?] 

Rafael replied: [Not talking about you.] 

Matteo shot back: […I didn’t say you were. I’m asking who you 

are talking about.] 

[Never mind. Oh, right… I might start dating soon.] 

Matteo rolled his eyes. [What do I care about your dating life? 

Go ahead.] 

[Could you at least… wish me and my girlfriend happiness forever?] 

Matteo muttered: [Ugh, you’re such a handful.]
