I Rejected My Double-Standard Alpha Chapter 03By Novel7s / May 26, 2026 I Rejected My Double-Standard Alpha Chapter 03Even my wolf was at a loss for what to do with me. I told Lily that every time he got upset, he threatened to break up with me. I usually backed down, but this time, he’d misjudged me. An hour later, I finally managed to hail a taxi. I was exhausted, close to passing out, but I still didn’t call Matteo. When I got home, I packed my things and moved out. For the next three days, I didn’t send Matteo a single message. He called me—something he almost never did on his own. “Hey… dress nice tonight. We’re going to a formal dinner.” His tone was still sharp, but this was Matteo’s rare way of extend an olive branch. I turned him down. “I’m not going. Take someone else.” There was a pause on the line, then Matteo’s voice came through, disbelieving. “Take someone else? Everyone’s bringing their girlfriend. Who am I supposed to bring?” “Anyone–Daphne, some other girl, it doesn’t matter,” snapped. “Faye,” he said, irritated. “How many times do I have to tell you? We’re just friends. Why are you bringing up the past?” “You’re the one who said you’d break up with me and be with her. Want me to quote you?” Heavy breathing came through the phone, like he was too angry to speak. “Fine! Then we’re broken up. Let’s see who begs to get back together first.” Matteo was cocky. Most of the time, when he said “break up,” he really meant, “I’m mad. You need to apologize, and then we’ll get back together.” But I was always the first to reach out, to patch things up… even love had started to feel like a chore.. “Okay. We’re broken up,” I said. Maybe it was the bar incident. Maybe I’d just been tired for a long time. I finally understood Matteo now. My “clinginess” was the only problem. My calls embarrassed and annoyed him. Fine. Then I’d let go. This is the freedom you wanted, Matteo. I started crying again, unable to stop myself. “Lily, I’m so hurt. Once he’s single, his friends will line up to date him,” I said to my wolf, defeated. “Faye, pull yourself together. He can mess around with Daphne, and you can find someone your own age who’ll actually treat you right.” But it was hard not to feel hurt. After all these years together, it wasn’t easy to just forget. But I couldn’t let myself drown in it. I had my own life to live. Lily said Matteo’s friends had crushes on me. I had no idea where she’d gotten that idea. After all, Matteo’s friends had never been nice to me. Several times, they’d dropped subtle warnings–that I wasn’t good enough for Matteo, and I should leave. Worst of all was Rafael, who’d cornered me once. He’d demanded to know why I liked Matteo. Back then, I’d thought he was just sticking up for his friend. So I’d put someone off by saying it was all about the money- that I only liked rich guys. But… ever since that day, Rafael… he started wearing every single watch he owned on his wrists. Every single day. I thought he was mocking me, so I fired back, teasing that he looked like a show–off. I joked that his family must have gone bankrupt, so he’d become a watch model. He got so mad that he took them all off the next day. But my wolf had never lied to me. Lily wasn’t some crazy she–wolf; she was rational, wise, and careful. I hesitated, then carefully posted a short update. [Single life again. Happy breakup.] It was almost two in the morning, so I thought no one would notice. But the very next second, my post blew up.
