I Ran Away Carrying the Mafia King’s Child Chapter 07

In the middle of the night, a sharp stabbing pain twisted through my lower abdomen.

Cold sweat soaked through my nightgown in an instant.

I curled up on the bed, too much in pain to make a sound.

Fear squeezed tight around my heart. What if something was wrong with the baby…

I didn’t dare finish the thought, struggling to reach for the emergency call button by the bed.

The bedroom door burst open violently.

Massimo rushed in, still carrying the chill of his study.

“What’s wrong with you?”

He took in my ashen face and hunched posture, panic unmistakable in his eyes.

“My stomach… it hurts…” I forced the words out through gritted teeth.

Without a second’s hesitation, he swept me up into his arms, wrapped me tightly in a blanket, and bolted outside like a man possessed.

“Get the doctor! Tell Dr. Chance to bring the entire obstetrics team and wait for me at the hospital entrance!” he roared into his phone, his voice trembling.

Pain blurred my consciousness, yet I could clearly feel his arms shaking.

He seemed even more terrified than I was.

The car sped through the night, running countless red lights.

Once we reached the hospital, he carried me all the way into the emergency room, completely unraveled-nothing like the feared Mafia King at all.

I was wheeled into the exam room, and Massimo was stopped at the door.

Even through the closed door, I could hear his furious roar.

“If there’s anything wrong with her or the baby, I’ll make this entire hospital pay!”

Half-delirious, I thought to myself: this man really has read one too many overbearing CEO

novels…

After a full round of tests, the doctor stepped out.

“Sir, please stay calm.”

“Both the mother and the fetus are perfectly fine. It’s just false labor contractions triggered by extreme mood swings and poor nutrition lately.”

The doctor paused, pulled down his mask, and looked at him with a serious expression.

“But I need to say this plainly.”

“Don Romano, what a pregnant woman needs is a stable, relaxed environment and a considerate

partner.”

“From what I can see right now, the biggest threat to Miss Ferraro’s health and the baby’s…”

The doctor glanced at me, still pale on the hospital bed, then turned his gaze back to the man

seething with raw hostility.

“Is you.”

Massimo froze on the spot, rooted to the ground.

The rage and anxiety faded from his face, replaced by a rare,

blank bewilderment.

On the drive back to the villa, he was uncharacteristically quiet.

He drove extremely slowly, as if carrying something fragile that could break at the slightest touch.

The first thing he did once we got home was dismiss the nutritionist and all the stern-looking

maids.

“They made you unhappy,” he said stiffly, sounding half like an explanation and half like he was convincing himself.

The next morning, my bedside was piled high with all sorts of things.

Enough baby toys to fill an entire nursery, children’s clothes sized from one year old all the way up

to ten, and even a brand-new top-tier dental exam chair.

I stared at the chair in utter shock.

“What’s this for?”

“Afraid you’ll get bored.” He stood in the doorway, avoiding my eyes awkwardly. “If your hands are restless, you can… treat my teeth whenever you want.”

Looking at his awkward, silently begging-for-praise expression, the tight tension I’d carried for days finally softened.

“Massimo, are you out of your mind?”

He blinked, clearly not expecting me to say that.

“I’m pregnant. Why would I be treating your teeth?” I nodded at the pile of clothes. “And these? You bought outfits for a ten-year-old for a baby who hasn’t even been born yet?”

His face turned red in real time.

“I… my assistant bought all this,” he insisted stubbornly.

“Alright then. Tell your assistant to take this dental chair away too.” I copied his usual domineering tone and gave him an order.

He didn’t move, just stared at me quietly.

After a long moment, he muttered a low “Mm-hmm” and turned to leave.

Watching his slightly flustered retreating figure, I couldn’t hold back and laughed out loud.
