I Ran Away Carrying the Mafia King’s Child Chapter 02

I Ran Away Carrying the Mafia King’s Child Chapter 02

I’d been working at this top-tier dental clinic for three years now.

Three years ago, my father’s company collapsed, drowning him in eight-figure debt before he jumped off a rooftop.

All he left Mom and me was an insurmountable mountain of debt.

To pay it off, I turned down a permanent position at a public hospital and accepted the clinic’s offer.

The pay was sky-high, with generous bonuses.

The catch? I had to pretend to be a man.

In this deeply prejudiced industry, wealthy clients always trusted male doctors more readily.

Staring at the astronomical figure on the debt collection notice, I’d agreed without a second thought.

I cut my long hair short, started wearing binders and men’s clothes, and kept a mask perpetually fixed to my face.

Before me, Massimo had gone through five dentists, never satisfied with any of them.

With no other options, the clinic director threw me into the role.

Surprisingly, I’d ended up being the only one who’d stuck around.

Things had always been peaceful between us. I saw him as a walking ATM, and he saw me as a reliable tooth mechanic.

That all changed with that ridiculous cocktail party a month ago.

I woke up the next morning in a wreck of a hotel bed.

The man who usually lay in my dental chair was lying naked right beside me.

Terrified out of my wits, I grabbed my clothes and fled without a second glance.

I’d thought it was just a one-night mistake with no consequences.

But now, of all times, I was pregnant…

The next morning, I was throwing up nonstop.

I only dragged myself back to the clinic after my assistant blew up my phone with endless calls.

Massimo was sitting in my exam room, his face thunderous.

I took a deep breath and stepped inside.

“Don Romano, my apologies. A family matter delayed me.”

He looked up at me, his gaze heavy with unspoken distrust, not buying my excuse for a second.

He stood abruptly, grabbing my arm hard enough to feel like he’d crush my bones.

“Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited?”

Massimo had a violent temper and zero patience.

Since I was “a man,” he never bothered holding back with me.

I stumbled under his grip.

As I struggled, his palm accidentally brushed my chest.

Even through my thin shirt and binder, the soft curve was impossible to miss.

We both froze.

I suddenly remembered I’d forgotten to put on my binder that morning, too worn out from morning sickness to bother.

Panic jolted me fully awake.

Massimo frowned, confusion flickering in his eyes. “What’s that… so soft?”

I quickly pulled a hot water bottle from under my shirt and held it up, feigning composure. “My stomach’s been acting up. I was using this to keep warm.”

The squishy weight of the bottle was vaguely convincing.

He seemed to buy the lie and dropped the subject, though his expression stayed stormy.

Back in the lounge, my legs gave out.

My phone vibrated with a bank text alert.

[50,000 USD deposited to your account.]

My monthly bonus.

With my existing savings, I was almost free of my debt.

I sank into the chair, staring listlessly at the ceiling.

I couldn’t keep living like this, constantly on edge.

My stomach would keep growing, and I couldn’t hide it forever.

There was only one way out: run.
