I Quit Being His Replacement Girlfriend, Then He Finally Panicked Chapter 10

He looked so sincere that I didn’t have the heart to discourage him.

Until the next day, when he appeared beside my desk.

“I thought about it all night. People really should have jobs.”

I stared at him. “Does your family not have enough jobs? Why are you trying to squeeze into this tiny company with me?”

He looked miserable. “My sister said if I was going to waste the family fortune, I could get out. So I

came to you.”

And just like that, Breck and I somehow became coworkers.

That morning, Elodie suddenly unblocked me.

[I really didn’t know Dash had mistaken you for someone else. I’m sorry about what happened that

day.]

[And the thing that got you fired later… I did it behind Dash’s back. It had nothing to do with him.]

If I were Elodie, I would have been angry too. But there was one thing I still didn’t understand.

[Who sent you the video?]

[It was Pippa.]

My breath caught. My fingers tightened slowly around my phone.

Even though I had already suspected it, having it confirmed still hurt.

Pippa and I had joined Northpass on the same day.

We had been inseparable lunch buddies. Friends.

When her mother needed surgery and she was desperate for money, I dipped into my savings to

lend her the money.

When her lease ended and she couldn’t afford a new place, I let her stay with me for two months

without charging her a cent.

I never imagined that one day, she would be the one to stab me in the back.

The truth sat in my throat like a thorn I could neither swallow nor spit out.

Later, when I saw Pippa again, I still couldn’t stop myself from asking why.

By then, Breck and I were together.

It happened during a holiday, when he brought me back to Dunmere to meet his family.

Pippa looked completely calm.

“Because I hated you.”

“I hated how easily you got everything I wanted, even though I was no worse than you.”

“When I finally found something I could use against you, why would I let it go?”

She gave a cold laugh.

“And because I happened to record a video, someone retaliated and cost me my job.”

“That was your own fault.”

I turned and walked away with my bag.

After only a few steps, I ran into Dash.

“You came back with Breck?”

Over the past two years, Mossbank Creative had grown well.

Several recruiters had tried to bring me back to Dunmere.

I had turned them all down.

Breck stayed with me too, squeezed into that small company in Crestwick as an ordinary employee.

Every day, he smiled like he didn’t have a care in the world.

“My family would love it if I never went back,” he once said. “If I get to see you every day, I’d work

for free.”

Thinking of that, I couldn’t help smiling.

I lifted my left hand, letting the diamond ring catch the light.

“Yeah. We’re together.”

Dash froze.

Breck burst out from the side, throwing an arm around my shoulders.

“I thought you went to the restroom. How did you end up all the way over here?”

“You have no sense of direction. What if you got lost?”

I jabbed him in the waist.

“Breck.” Only then did he finally notice Dash.

“Oh. Ran into an old acquaintance?”

He checked his watch.

“But my parents are waiting for us for dinner, so we won’t sit down and catch up today.”

“When we get married, we’ll be sure to send you an invitation.”

Dash ignored him and looked at me.

“If he ever treats you badly, you can come to me.” Breck exploded like a firecracker.

“Dashiell Kincaid, you shameless piece of work. How dare you say that to my fiancée in front of

me?”

“Want me to hit you right now?” My expression cooled.

“Breck. Come here.”

He immediately shut up and obediently came to my side.

I took his hand and laced our fingers together.

“I don’t go back to men I’ve already left.”

“And if that day ever comes, I’ll start over again.”

I wouldn’t turn away from happiness just because it might not last.

This time, I would take what was in front of me.

While it was real.

While it was mine.
