I Prepared Our Wedding, For His Another Bride Chapter 07

The nurse Lily’s voice exploded from behind us, making Cyrus freeze mid-step.

She sprinted forward, both hands clamped hard around his upper arm. “Let her go! Can’t you see how unwell

she is?”

Cyrus’s jaw tightened, and he roughly shook his arm free.

Lily stumbled backward, her lower spine slamming hard against the cabinet edge. She let out a muffled whimper and crumpled to the floor.

Ignoring her pain, she scrambled back up and planted herself firmly in front of the exit to block his path.

“You can’t take her! She just had a termination surgery-she’s far too weak for this.”

Cyrus went rigid all over. He slowly turned his head, his gaze sliding from Lily’s face to mine, then back to

her again.

“What did you just say?” His voice dropped so low it sounded like he was forcing the words up from his

throat.

Lily shrank back under his sharp stare but refused to move. She bit her lip, pulled my medical report out of her pocket, unfolded it, and held it out to him.

“Read it for yourself. Her body’s frail, and her mental state’s strained-you can’t treat her like this.”

Cyrus snatched the paper. The more he read, the heavier his breathing grew.

[Patient: Elowen Astor. Termination performed two weeks prior. Severe physical weakness and emotional distress. Mandatory quiet recovery required.]

Termination.

Cyrus’s mind flashed back to that phone call from the police station.

When he’d been blowing up my phone, demanding I shoot Bianca’s wedding, I’d been lying on an operating table losing our child.

We could’ve had a baby, a home of our own. Our wedding and our baby-two joys we were supposed to

celebrate together.

He crumpled the medical slip tighter and tighter in his fist, until a single hot tear splattered straight onto the printed words.

A heavy silence swallowed the whole room.

Lily had slipped quietly outside, closing the door with a soft click. Yet I could see her shadow pressed

against the window glass, lingering in fear he’d hurt me again.

He crossed to the side of my hospital bed. His mouth parted, but no sound came out. His Adam’s apple bobbed wildly, his eyes bloodshot, fine red veins spiderwebbing across the whites.

“Why…?” His voice was raw, unrecognizable. “How could this happen? This wasn’t supposed to happen. Elowen, I didn’t know-”

He repeated the broken phrases over and over under his breath.

I turned my face away, unwilling to look at him.

He shuffled one step forward, his knee knocking against the bed frame, his whole frame swaying unsteadily.

He lifted a hand, hovering it mid-air for a long moment before carefully resting his palm over mine where it lay exposed on top of the covers. His fingertips were ice cold, trembling nonstop.

“Say something to me, please, I’m begging you…”

I stayed silent.

He leaned in closer, propping one elbow on the pillow beside my head to lean down and force me to meet his eyes. His eyelashes shook violently, filled with a panic I’d never once seen on him before.

“Just look at me… please, just one look.”

His tone bordered on desperate pleading, his thumb stroking back and forth over the back of my hand, again and again-yet his skin stayed cold, no matter how hard he tried to warm mine.

I never lifted my eyes to him.

Cyrus’s lips trembled, and all he could choke out were fragmented, broken words. “I had no idea… I truly didn’t know. I shouldn’t have done any of this.”

I finally turned my head to face his red-rimmed eyes, my voice soft and flat. “There’s nothing left to talk about, not after everything that’s happened.”

Cyrus’s eyelashes fluttered hard.

I pulled a faint, empty smile to my lips. “I wish you all the happiness with Bianca.”

I’d spoken those exact same words back in Seattle. This time, there was no sob caught in my throat to hold

me back.

Cyrus froze completely, every ounce of life drained from his posture. Then the tear fell, silent and heavy,

skin. crashing onto the back of my hand, burning hot against my

“No, Elowen.” He squeezed my hand tight, his voice splitting apart with every word. “I’m not having a wedding

with Bianca. Even if I were, none of it could ever compare to the wedding I was supposed to have with you.”
