I Played A Mean Wife But Cried In Secret Chapter 11

I Played A Mean Wife But Cried In Secret Chapter 11

After that day, Elias became even quieter, more withdrawn.

He was gone for days at a time. Even when he did come home, it was deep in the night, long after 1

was asleep.

I never got the chance to corner him, nor did I ever find out if his wounds had healed.

[Stop dwelling on it. The male lead’s already bonded with the female lead, growing fonder of her day by day. The divorce plot is right around the corner-get ready.]

Ready for what? Like it’s something to celebrate. I pressed my lips together and stayed silent.

The day we got divorced was bright and sunny.

I sat in the living room early morning, staring blankly at the floor.

Elias said nothing when he got up at dawn, nor when he came back at noon to grab a few things.

In the afternoon, we went for the hotpot we’d missed on New Year’s Eve. Maybe the broth was too

spicy-my eyes were stinging.

I turned my head away, avoiding his gaze, and babbled to fill the silence:

“Why’re you off work so early today? This spicy hot pot isn’t nearly as good as online reviews say. It’s too hot to even taste the original flavor of the ingredients.”

Elias hummed in agreement,

“We can get tomato broth next time.”

There would be no next time.

We stepped out after paying the bill, right as the mall ran a promotional event.

Someone handed me a sticky note,

“Make a wish. Every wish written here will be granted by fate.”

I glanced over at Elias, who wrote on his note slowly and earnestly.

On the ride home, I couldn’t hold back and asked,

“What wish did you write down?”

I hadn’t expected a reply at all, for Elias was always so quiet and reserved.

Yet his answer came soft and clear,

“I don’t want to make you cry anymore.” Pale moonlight caught in his eyes as he looked at my stunned face. “I want you to be happy. To wear pretty things, nice bracelets. To be happy, and not have to worry about money.”

“I’ve tried my hardest to grant every wish of yours. All that grueling physical labor means nothing. to me. Nothing in life comes free, and I thought earning your smile by fulfilling your wishes was only fair.”

A heavy silence hung in the air. For once, frustration and confusion flickered across his face.

“But I always fail.”

He whispered quietly,

“Mia, am I really worthless?”

“Being with me only ever makes you sad.”

After the divorce, the System told me my mission was complete. Perfect. But my heart just felt

hollow.

Once, when I went to see Elias in secret, I ran into Scarlett.

By then, Elias had made his first real money, his career was taking off.

They stood side by side-a perfect, handsome couple.

Scarlett smiled gently, tilting her head as she chatted with him about something.

Elias, though, seemed distracted, his gaze wandering aimlessly as if searching for someone.

I slipped away quietly, my spirits low.

[Stop staring. Your role as the side character is over. From now on it’s all the female lead’s

storyline-none of your business.]

I put on a stubborn front,

“I wasn’t staring. I was just passing by.”

[Sure you were. Passing by three times a week, always exactly when he finishes work?]

“Mind your own business. You’re so annoying, why won’t you just leave me alone.”

I bickered with the System, not noticing someone creeping up beside me.

The roar of motorbikes split the air, followed by the raucous laughter of guys.

A hand snatched my bag with brutal force-I couldn’t resist.

By the time I snapped back to my senses, the thugs on bikes had already sped far away.

Seeing me frozen in shock, one of them glanced back and smirked,

“Thought she was a beauty, turns out she’s just a plain loner, hahaha.”

I only then noticed my hat had fallen to the ground without me realizing it.’

“How could they do this…”

I rambled incoherently, repeating myself over and over, overwhelmed with despair.

“They’re so cruel, why steal my bag…”

I came to myself, fumbling to cover my head, and fled into a nearby alley under the stares of people.

I sank to the ground, buried my face in my knees, and the fear hit me-my body started to shake.

The System was furious too, spewing harsh curses nonstop.

[I’ve already called the police! Those reckless punks have no shame robbing my host. They’ll face

the full force of the law…]

Calmed by the System’s comfort, I slowly stopped shaking.

I didn’t know how long I stayed there before I looked up, only to find someone standing in front of

me out of nowhere.

Backlit by the light, I stared for a long moment before realizing it was Elias.

His hair was messy, his coat crumpled and disheveled.

At the sight of my red, teary eyes, he closed his own for a second, knelt down, and pressed

something into my arms.

It was my stolen bag.

“The police have them. They’ll be dealt with.” Clutching the bag, my first instinct was to shove the

hat back on my head.

“You… what are you doing here?”

Chent.??
