I Played A Mean Wife But Cried In Secret Chapter 10

I Played A Mean Wife But Cried In Secret Chapter 10

I flushed crimson,

“You’re making this up…”

After that first time, I ignored every one of Kian’s “chance” encounters. I never said those things to

him.

Scarlett apologized immediately. “I must have you mixed up with someone else. You just look so

much alike. My mistake.”

Her tone sounded apologetic, yet her expression clearly looked like she was covering for me.

The photo spoke for itself-

I leaned closely into Kian’s arms, and anyone familiar with me could easily tell it was really me

from my clothes and figure.

Scarlett kept talking,

“He gave that woman five thousand dollars the first time they met, and who knows how much more

afterward. So vain, and so loose…”

“Enough.”

Elias cut her off and reached for my hand to lead me away.

I rooted myself to the spot, refusing to move.

I looked up at him, eyes brimming with tears, and asked slowly and firmly,

“Do you believe what she said?”

Do you think I’m vain, shallow, and unfaithful?

New Year’s Eve was nothing like I’d imagined. We walked home in total silence, the air between us

thick and suffocating.

As soon as we got back, I locked myself in the bedroom.

[What was the point of asking that?]

The System sounded utterly confused.

This was the plot. The female lead exposes the ‘real’ me, so the male lead can’t keep lying to himself. He gets fed up, files for divorce, and ends up with the right girl.

[Your question was completely unnecessary!]

I lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

After what felt like forever, a knock came at the door.

“Dinner’s ready.”

The dining table was filled with awkward silence too.

I’d booked a hot pot restaurant ages in advance, planning to spend New Year’s Eve there.

Instead, Elias had stewed pork ribs and stir-fried cabbage.

He’d gotten up early that morning to buy the ribs, ever since I’d mentioned my legs kept cramping

lately.

Watching his chopsticks move only toward the cabbage, a tight, sick feeling rose in my chest.

I asked him straight out,

“You still haven’t answered me. Do you think that girl in the photo is me?”

His chopsticks paused for a second, then he kept eating quietly,

“It’s not you. I believe you.”

A flood of explanations stuck in my throat. I was left flustered by his casual, dismissive reply.

“That down jacket I bought you, I didn’t spend another man’s money. I…”

“The soup’s gone cold. I’ll reheat it.”

Elias cut me off abruptly.

But the soup had only just been served; it couldn’t have cooled down so fast.

I stared at his retreating back and whispered to the System,

“Tell me, is it possible…”

I chose my words carefully,

“that Elias truly believes me, and this is all just a misunderstanding?”

After all, I’d never been intimate with Kian at our first meeting. The money he gave me was just a simple apology for spilling coffee on me.

As for the photo, it was just an awkward camera angle-the truth was nothing like how it looked.

The System shattered my naive hope at once,

[Don’t delude yourself. He just doesn’t want to make a scene in public. Do you really think he’d openly admit his wife’s being unfaithful? It’d be humiliating.]

[Mark my words, he’s already given up on you for good and planning to file for divorce soon. He has his destined partner. You’re just a vicious side character who doesn’t belong in their story.]

I opened my mouth to argue.

But then I thought of Scarlett’s face.

The coat from her that Elias was wearing.

In the end, I said nothing.
