Ezra took a step forward, blocking Asher’s view. “Even if the Kensington family goes bankrupt, we’ll never hand over what we built.”

Asher looked at Ezra and suddenly burst into laughter. “You still have so much backbone, young man. I just wonder if that pride can buy you dinner.”

He leaned back against the couch and unbuttoned his suit jacket.

“Oh, I forgot to mention,” Asher added smoothly. “The value of those three overseas gold mines I pledged to your creditors has already doubled. Every one of your creditors is on my side now.”

He watched Conrad’s pale, lifeless face, his tone softening even further. “Sign it, Mr. Kensington. Don’t make your whole family end up out on the street with you.”

Standing on the second-floor landing, I took in the drama unfolding below.

Asher truly was meticulous—stabbing people with the softest tone.

Conrad suddenly broke into a violent coughing fit.

Ezra rushed over to pat his back while Sloane handed him a glass of water.

“Dad, stay calm,” Sloane said softly.

Veronica turned back to stare at Asher, her eyes rimmed with red. “Who are you really? We searched every global mining titan, and your name never came up.”

Asher stood up and straightened his cuffs. “Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is that the Kensington Group’s survival rests in my hands.”

He checked his watch. “I’ll give you one hour to think it over. If the seal isn’t in my hands by then, the bankruptcy liquidation process begins immediately.”

He turned his gaze toward the second floor, landing precisely where I stood.

“I hear the youngest Mrs. Kensington is quite a beauty,” Asher said, a playful smile curling the corner of his lips. “I wonder if she’ll still be able to buy her Hermes once the company goes under.”
