I Married The Beast Commander, Not His Match Chapter 09

I Married The Beast Commander, Not His Match Chapter 09

A white sedan rolled up to the edge of the property. Chloe stepped out.

She spotted Gideon crouched in the dirt, and the smile on her face froze in place.

“Gideon? You’re… farming?”

Gideon stood. His face went cold the second he saw her.

“What are you doing here?”

Chloe’s eyes went glossy.

“Gideon, you haven’t been home in days. I was worried.”

She turned to me. “What did you do to him, Audrey? He was never like this before.”

I wiped my hands. “What did I do?”

“You know the Registry data was a mistake, and you’re still clinging to him. Don’t you think that’s pathetic?”

Gideon’s voice cut in, sharp as a blade. “Chloe.”

Tears slipped down Chloe’s cheeks. “Gideon, you promised my father you’d look after me!”

I watched the two of them, and exhaustion rolled through me.

“Take your drama somewhere else. Not on my land.’

I looked at Gideon. “Get her out of here.”

Gideon opened his mouth, but I was already walking toward the pens.

He stared after me, a muscle ticking in his jaw as he bit back his words.

In the end, he said nothing.

Chloe grabbed Gideon’s arm, eyes brimming.

Gideon shook her off and walked away without looking back.

Chloe stood there. Her gaze slid toward the livestock pens, and something ugly flickered behind her

eyes.

The next morning, I walked up to the property line and stopped. The pen gate was wide open.

Half the lambs were gone.

Footprints cut through the dirt. Human.

I crouched down for a closer look, my stomach dropping.

[OMG, it wasn’t Chloe who did this, right??]

[It’s 100 percent her. The way she looked at the pens yesterday was sus.]

[Poor FL, her livestock got stolen omg.]

I called the Pack Enforcers. A shifter Enforcer showed up and took down my statement.

Somehow, Gideon found out. He was there within thirty minutes.

He looked at the half-empty pens, his face gray.

“Who did this?”

I didn’t look at him. “The Enforcers are looking into it.”

Gideon pulled out his phone and made a call. “Pull every piece of surveillance footage around this property, from dawn to now. Send it to my office.”

I secured the remaining lambs in the barn.

I already had a hidden trail cam, but that afternoon, I drove out, bought a full security system, and

installed more cameras around the yard.

When I got back, Gideon reached for one of the cameras.

“I’ve got it.”

He stood behind me, watching, and said nothing.

Chloe showed up the next day carrying gifts.

“Audrey, I heard about the lambs! I brought you something small to cheer you up.”

I looked at her. “It was you, wasn’t it?”

Chloe’s expression cracked. “What… what are you talking about?”

“The footprints are a woman’s. Narrow heels. Same size as yours.”

Her voice climbed. “You have proof?”

I pulled out my phone and hit play on a video.

On screen, a woman in a white dress stood at the pen gate. She opened it and chased the lambs out.

The face was blurry, but the dress was the same one Chloe wore yesterday.

All the color drained from Chloe’s face.

“You… you had cameras?”

“I set up a trail cam for predators. But it caught a different kind of pest.”

Chloe turned and ran. I didn’t chase her.

I sent the video to Gideon. Three minutes later, he called.

There was no warmth in his voice at all. “I got the video.”

“Good.”

“I’ll handle it.”

I hung up.

[The FL is SO badass!]

[Chloe is finished.]

[How is the ML gonna handle this? He better not go easy on her again.]
