I Haunted His Dreams After He Dumped Me For My Roommate Chapter 10

Back at the hilltop mansion, the forecast said the hurricane had shifted path.

I wouldn’t be trapped in Ethan’s villa after all.

The living room was packed. People gaming, screaming lyrics, cracking open drinks.

I turned to Derek. “Soon as the rain stops, I’m out of here.”

Ethan stood nearby, listening. His eyes stayed fixed on me the entire time.

Twenty minutes later, the game landed on me for a punishment.

“Pick someone to sing a duet with. Love song only.”

Ethan was leaning against the kitchen doorframe, holding a soda. His throat moved as he

swallowed.

He stared at me with brooding intensity, like he was waiting for me to call his name.

I stood up.

He straightened.

Looked away, then right back.

I walked toward the girl sitting right in front of him.

“Oh my god, me? Yes!” She bounced up, threw her arm around my shoulder, and we bounced off to pick a song together.

Bang.

The room door opened and slammed shut. Ethan was gone.

Vera glanced at the door the wind had pushed open again and followed him out.

After the song, I went to the kitchen for water.

Outside the window, rain had started falling. I couldn’t hear a single drop.

I could still see Vera gripping Ethan’s sleeve, refusing to let go. But Ethan wore a stone-cold face and walked back inside without a word.

Vera crouched there, helpless and lost.

All this time, she’d been unbeatable with that face.

I grabbed an umbrella and walked up to her.

The wind tangled her hair, whipping my skirt at the same time. Everything blurred together.

Vera’s eyes were red-rimmed, but she still carried herself like she had the upper hand./

“He rejected me today. That doesn’t mean anything. Can you promise me that if you two get back together, he won’t look at my face and start second-guessing?”

I swept my hair back. “Vera, I’m not getting back together with him.”

She looked up, bewildered. “W-why?”

I crouched down and gently touched her face.

How many times had I envied her, wishing if I were that beautiful maybe life would be easier?

“Because I don’t need to prove anything to you anymore.”

I stopped playing a game with no winners.
