I Found My Boyfriend Signing As Another Woman’s Husband Chapter 06

Life went on, one day at a time.

I started learning how to live alone.

Up at six every morning. A run. Water the plants. Prep lessons.

On weekends, Julian’s daughter, Mia, would knock on my door.

“Clara, my dad’s cooking is terrible. Can I eat at your place?”

Mia’s mother had passed away when she was two. Julian had raised her on his own ever since.

I made her fried eggs.

She sat at the table, swinging her short legs, chatting nonstop about kindergarten gossip while she ate.

Sometimes Julian came too.

He never said more than necessary. Fixed a leaking faucet. Took the trash downstairs when he saw it by my

door.

Nothing intentional. Nothing suggestive. Just what a good neighbor would do.

But I knew.

That quiet, pressure-free warmth was slowly pulling me out of the ice I had been trapped in.

Caleb had lost his mind.

He dropped twenty pounds. Dark circles pooled under his eyes like bruises. He combed through every social

platform, asking everywhere for news about me.

Kaylee sensed his unraveling and started acting out.

She cried about stomach pain. Said her heart hurt again. Claimed she didn’t want to live if he didn’t stay with

her.

Those tricks had always worked before.

Not this time.

Caleb shook her hand off coldly.

“If you hadn’t insisted on going to that birthday party, my child wouldn’t have died.”

Kaylee froze.

It was the first time he had said the words my child in front of her.

And it wasn’t about the baby she was carrying.

A month later.

I was coming back from the market with groceries when I saw Caleb downstairs.

He was leaning against a streetlamp, unshaven, eyes bloodshot.

The second he saw me, he sprang upright.

“Clara!”

He rushed over, his voice hoarse and broken.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were pregnant. I really didn’t know…”

He reached for me.

I stepped back.

Just one step.

But it stopped him cold, like he had stepped on a nail.

“So what if you had known?” I said, my voice so calm it didn’t feel like mine. “Would you have pushed me any

less hard?”

His lips trembled. Tears streamed down his face.

Then he dropped to his knees.

The impact of bone against concrete was dull and heavy.

He grabbed the hem of my coat, shaking as he sobbed.

“Give me another chance. Please, Clara. I’ll do anything…”

I looked down at him.

At the man who had always been composed, always in control in front of me, now kneeling at my feet, crying like a stray dog.

Three years ago, I had wanted to see this.

Now that I did, I felt nothing.

“Caleb, I don’t hate you.”

I bent down and slowly pulled my coat free from his grip, finger by finger.

“I just think you’re disgusting.”

His hand froze in midair, like ice water had been poured over him.

A car pulled up behind us.

Julian stepped out, took in the scene, and didn’t ask a single question.

He walked over, took the grocery bags from my hands, and stood between me and Caleb.

Not in a dramatic, protective way. Just naturally, as if that was where he belonged.

“Mia’s waiting upstairs to finish her puzzle,” he said. “Let’s go.”

I nodded.

I walked into the building with him.

I didn’t look back once.

Behind me, Caleb’s voice tore through the air, hoarse and breaking.

“Clara Winslow! You can’t do this to me!”

The elevator doors closed, cutting off the sound completely.

The next morning, I opened my door to leave for work.

Someone was standing there.

Kaylee.

Her belly was swollen with pregnancy. Her face was pale and tight with anger.

In her hand, she clutched a stack of photos.
