I Fixed His Martyr Mom With My High Self-Worth Chapter 07

When we’d paid the hospital bill a few days earlier, we noticed strange transactions on Mrs. Carter’s

account-everyday small purchases, and some big ones too. Derek had gone to the bank and found

out her card was linked to his uncle’s phone. The whole family had been living off it.

So every penny Derek sent his mom? She never spent a dime on herself. It all went to supporting his

uncle’s household.

Derek asked his mom what happened. She had no clue. She only remembered his uncle fiddling with

her phone once, asking her to scan her face to “register for a membership.” After that, nothing. She never touched the money herself-kept the card wrapped in cloth against her chest. Had no idea t

was being drained.

“Son, I swear I didn’t know,” she said, nearly rising out of her wheelchair. “I was saving that money

for your wedding!”

“He’s a big shot—he doesn’t need you pinching pennies for his wedding. That money was for you to spend on yourself. And now it’s all gone to outsiders. Good thing I caught it early, or your son would’ve spent his whole life working for your brother.”

It wasn’t about the amount. It was the betrayal. “Mom, my uncle’s been treating us like fools. I let the little stuff slide, but now he’s after your retirement fund. This isn’t family-it’s a con. We’re

done with them.”

Mrs. Carter still hesitated. “But he’s my brother-my own flesh and blood.”

“You treat him like a brother. He treats you like an ATM machine. How many times did he visit in the hospital? None. They don’t give a damn about you.”

I stepped in. “Think about it. Your son’s killing himself out there-working till he’s bleeding from stress-and all the reward goes to your brother. Does that sit right with you?”

Mrs. Carter looked at her brother, at his greedy hands full of her things. She remembered all the years they’d pushed her around. Then she thought of Derek-her son, killing himself to build a life.

Her eyes hardened.

“Last week I had surgery and found out all my money was gone. You’re the only one who’s touched my card. That’s my son’s hard-earned money-give it back!”

Margaret had always been meek, shrinking away. This sudden defiance caught everyone off guard.

Her brother and his wife froze for a few seconds before scrambling. “We don’t know anything about your money. We’re family-why are you making such a big deal out of nothing?”

“It’s her,” the uncle jabbed a finger at me. “This little schemer is turning you against us. You stupid

old woman-we’re your family. She’s nobody!”

He spun toward me, face red. “”I’m going to teach you some respect, you scheming little-“”

I crossed

my arms and smiled coldly. “Try it. I promise you’ll leave this house feet-first.”

Then I turned to Derek. “Call the cops. Right now. And Martha-lock the front door. Nobody leaves until they pay back every cent.”

Derek dialed 911. The housekeeper locked the door.
