I Faked My Death to Escape the Mafia Don After My Daughter Died Chapter 20

For the next few days, Vittorio came to her room every day.

He brought food, medicine, flowers, and jewelry.

He talked to her as if they were still in love.

He told her about the family business, about the garden, about how he had dismissed the people who had mocked Ansela online.

Giovanna never answered.

She only looked at him as if looking at something disgusting.

Vittorio seemed unable to bear that gaze.

One night, he sat beside her for a long time and suddenly took out a photo album.

“Look. These are Ansela’s photos.”

Giovanna’s gaze finally moved.

Vittorio’s fingers trembled as he opened the album.

In the photos, Ansela smiled brightly.

There were pictures of her in a little dress, pictures of her eating cake, pictures of her sleeping with a plush toy in her arms.

Giovanna stared at them, and her eyes slowly turned red.

Vittorio noticed and softened at once.

“See? We both loved her. I loved her too.”

“I was just… wrong back then.”

“I thought there would be a next time. I thought she was easy to coax, that after everything, I could buy her a cake and make her happy again.”

His voice broke.

“I didn’t know there would be no next time.”

Giovanna closed her eyes.

The pain in her chest rose again, sharp and suffocating.

Vittorio cautiously reached out, trying to wipe the tears from the corner of her eye.

Giovanna turned her face away.

“Don’t touch me.”

His hand froze in midair.

After a long while, he withdrew it.

Then he turned another page in the album.

There was a family photo.

In the photo, Giovanna stood in the middle, holding Ansela.

Vittorio stood beside them, one hand around Giovanna’s shoulder.

They looked like the happiest family in the world.

Vittorio’s gaze softened.

“We were happy once.”

Giovanna looked at the photo for a long time.

Then she reached out.

Almost stubbornly, she tore the photo apart.

She tore off the part with Vittorio printed on it and ripped it to shreds.
