I Faked My Death to Escape the Mafia Don After My Daughter Died Chapter 06

After an unknown amount of time, Giovanna opened her eyes.

What came into view was a white ceiling, and the scent of disinfectant lingered at her nose.

She moved slightly, waking the man slumped beside the bed.

The next second, Vittorio hugged her tightly.

The usually forceful man trembled now, as if terrified.

“Thank God. Thank God you’re all right…”

“If you died, what would I do? What meaning would there be for me to live?”

Giovanna struggled hard out of his arms.

Only then did she notice how wrecked he looked.

His perfectly neat hair was messy, his eyes were ringed with dark shadows, and even faint

blue stubble had emerged along his jaw.

Even back at that explosion years ago, he had never looked this fragile.

For one moment, Giovanna fell into a daze.

Then she turned her face away.

“Aren’t you going to see Serena? Isn’t she the one you risked your life to protect?”

“Serena isn’t badly hurt. You, on the other hand…”

Halfway through his words, Vittorio clearly remembered why Serena was safe while Giovanna

had nearly died.

Guilt and regret appeared in his eyes.

He took Giovanna’s hand.

“I didn’t think this would happen. I really didn’t.”

“The only person I want to protect with my life in this lifetime is you.”

“Give me a chance to make it up to you, okay?”

Giovanna remembered not long ago.

Vittorio had turned Sicily upside down and finally found her.

Half-kneeling in front of her, his expression painful and fragile, he kept saying again and

again, “I was wrong before. Give me another chance, okay?”

“We’ll go back to the way we were.”

Giovanna refused.

So he kidnapped her and forced her to remarry him.

Now, looking at him, Vittorio was still Vittorio.

He had never changed.

Giovanna pulled the corner of her mouth in mockery and ignored him.

But he was determined to save this relationship.

For the next few days, he stayed by her side constantly.

He cooked and cleaned with his own hands.

He even fought to wash her undergarments.

If Giovanna said she felt unwell, he could stay awake for days watching over her.

Life seemed to return to the calm before Serena appeared.

But that calm broke quickly.

On the day Giovanna was discharged and returned to Villa Rizzuto, Serena knelt in front of

her, crying as if her heart had been torn out.

“Signora Padrona, I’m the one who wronged you, not Dario. Please, give Dario back to me.”
