I Cared For Him Twenty Years, Only For His Love Letters To Belong To Another Girl Chapter 04

Graham’s words woke me up. I started preparing application materials with him.

We stopped going to school altogether. With me deliberately avoiding him, Thorne finally stopped appearing in front of me.

At last, Graham and I boarded a plane and left the country.

A month later, I’d settled into my new life. I told Graham excitedly, “There’s a physics competition team! If I get in, the annual scholarship covers everything!”

He encouraged me to try.

To escape Thorne’s shadow and prove my own abilities, I threw myself into studying. I worked from dawn until midnight, barely paying attention to anything else, even eating.

My hard work paid off. A senior on the team said he’d introduce me to the person in charge of the competition team.

I thought everything was finally heading in the right direction.

Until I saw Thorne again. He was the one running the competition team.

My senior Derek Vance threw his arm around my shoulder casually. “You should’ve told me you knew Thorne. He personally requested you. Honestly, your entrance exam scores weren’t high enough to get in on your own.”

My entire body started shaking uncontrollably.

Thorne’s voice made my skin crawl. “Long time no see, Laurel.”

“From now on, you’ll be my personal assistant.”

He tossed a whole bag of underwear at me. “Wash these for me.”

My hands and feet went ice cold. I practically begged him, “Why? Why do you have to humiliate me like this?”

He gave me that same blank, confused stare. “Laurel, what’s wrong with things being like they were?”

I was drowning in a terror I couldn’t name when Vivian pushed the door open with a bright smile.

“Am I late? We can start the meeting on that problem we discussed last time.”

Derek nudged me. “Hey! Wake up. Meeting’s starting.”

But Thorne stopped me from following them into the conference room.

“She’s not attending the meeting. She’s staying out here to wash my underwear.”

Vivian explained to Derek with a sweet smile. “Didn’t you know? Laurel’s Thorne’s personal little assistant. Why else do you think he brought her onto the team?”

Under Derek’s bewildered stare, I fled again.

Graham was waiting for me at the entrance with a bouquet of roses. When he saw me, his face lit up.

“First day on the competition team! I was worried you’d have a hard time adjusting—”

But when I collapsed into his arms, pale as a ghost, his expression shifted.

“What happened? Are you alright?”

I could barely hold back tears. “Graham, it’s Thorne. He’s at the same university as us!”

“How is that possible?!”

I couldn’t understand it either. He’d already been accepted to Northwestern. I’d left the country. I’d even deliberately chosen an obscure university in a country no one thought to look.

Thorne was supposed to be heading into that meeting. But at some point, he’d come downstairs. He stood there, eyes locked on Graham with pure hatred. “Laurel. Come back.”

Graham stepped in front of me protectively. “She’s quitting the competition team. She doesn’t have to listen to you.”

“Laurel is mine.” Thorne’s gaze was obsessive.

Graham rubbed my back soothingly. “She’s not yours. She’s my girlfriend.”

“I’d appreciate it if you stayed away from her and stopped harassing her.”

Derek was shocked. “Thorne! You’ve been pursuing another man’s girlfriend? And making her wash your underwear? That’s seriously messed up!”

But Thorne just tilted his head, genuinely lost. “Messed up?”

“Of course it is! They’re together. They’re gonna get married and have a whole life. You can’t just bulldoze your way into that.”

Thorne finally seemed to comprehend. His eyes went red.

He moved quickly, reaching for my hand.

“Laurel is mine. She can only marry me.”
