I Came Back As A Zombie And They Wanted My Kidney Chapter 06

The priest plopped down on the sofa like he owned the place, crossed his legs, and got straight to the point about the money.

“Mr. Holloway. You still owe me five million for finding your daughter.”

“It’s long overdue. You’ve been dragging your feet on payment, but I’ve got costs to cover.”

“Each stabilizer pill costs eighty grand. Your daughter chewed through thirty of them. That bill’s coming out of your pocket.”

A vein throbbed on his forehead, his face tight with confusion. “What pills? What are you talking about?”

The priest lit a cigarette. Took his time.

“Simple. You put up ten million. Whole city knew.”

“I found her. Lucky me.”

“Trouble was, I found her in a mass grave. She was already dead, buried for two months, half decomposed.”

Eleanor went deathly white, gasping and shaking all over.

“Liar! You’re both scamming us!”

The priest kept going.

“I do what I do. You paid. So I dug her back up.”

“But she’s a zombie. Her brain works slow, she has no heartbeat, no body temperature.”

“Thirty-day shelf life. Then she falls apart for good.”

Dash slammed his fist on the table.

“So you’re saying you brought us a corpse? You think I’ll buy that?”

“What are you two freaks trying to pull?”

The priest bristled.

“What? The DNA was done. The results came back. She’s your biological daughter.”

“Is she Wren Holloway? Yes.”

“I just didn’t tell you she was dead. Having her stand here as a zombie was the best I could do.”

“And let’s be real—your family’s the reason she’s falling apart so fast.”

“You made her go through transplant prep, you hit her, you shoved her around, you ripped her arm off. You’ve got some real nerve acting like victims.”

Dash’s mouth opened and closed, his lips trembling, but no sound came out.

Harrison’s voice cracked. He looked at me.

“How… how did you die?”

The priest’s face changed.

He put his cigarette down. Stubbed it out on the table.

“Mr. Holloway. You shouldn’t ask her that.”

“You should ask your other daughter.”

All eyes turned to Sera.

“What’s that supposed to mean? Drag me into this?” Her voice wobbled.

The priest dug into his bag. Pulled out a file folder. Threw it on the table.

“Wren was kidnapped when she was eight and sold to a farming couple out in the countryside. They were vegetable farmers, poor as dirt, but they loved her like their own.”

“Six months ago, your reward went public. It was only a matter of time before someone found her.”

“But right before the DNA match was confirmed, a dump truck crashed straight into their rented cottage in the middle of the night.”

“Frank and Martha were killed instantly. Wren got crushed by the rubble. Bashed her skull in. She was dead by the time they got to the hospital.”

“By the time I found her, she was in that mass grave without even a headstone.”

Eleanor was ice cold. “The crash… accident?”

The priest laughed. No humor.

“Hardly. Check the truck’s owner. A man named Clyde Vance.”

“Seraphina’s biological father’s distant cousin.”

Sera was furious. “No! I don’t know anyone named Vance!”

The priest didn’t even look at her.

“The driver ran, but he got caught in another city half a month later. He sang like a bird, confessed everything.”

“Sera’s father paid. Sera planned it.”

“Because as long as the real Wren was alive, Sera knew she’d be out of this house.”

“So she tried to kill all three of them before the DNA results came back.”

“She thought she’d gotten away with it clean.”

“Then I dug her right back up from the dirt.”
