I Called the Don My Future Brother-in-Law. He Called Me His Chapter 05

On the way to the hospital, I had been too worried about my mother to notice that Rafe had brought

us to St. Aurelia Private Hospital.

This was no ordinary hospital.

It sat on the outskirts of Manhattan, sprawling across so much land that it looked more like a

private estate. There were no taxis waiting outside and no ordinary visitors wandering in and out.

People said the Vittori Family’s money was behind it.

Whenever someone from the underworld suffered an injury that could not be taken to a regular emergency room, they were sent here. The doctors did not ask questions. The nurses did not look

too closely. Even the bills never went through ordinary systems.

I stood at the hospital entrance and only then realized I had no money on me. I still had no idea where my phone had fallen.

All I could do was turn around, planning to go back inside and ask a nurse to borrow a phone.

I had only taken one step when a black Bentley pulled up silently in front of me, blocking my way.

The window slowly rolled down.

Rafe was sitting in the driver’s seat, one hand resting on the steering wheel and the other holding

an unlit cigarette.

Not far behind him, two black SUVs were parked as well.

Several Vittori enforcers leaned against the vehicles, their gazes cold and hard. The capo known as

“The Bull” stood in front of the car like a silent wall.

Rafe looked at me, his voice flat.

“Get in.”

I did not want to pay him any attention.

But when I happened to look up, I saw Celeste standing behind a floor-to-ceiling window upstairs, watching us from inside the hospital.

She was wearing a white coat, immaculate and beautiful, as if she were the true owner of the place.

The moment our eyes met, memories from my teenage years suddenly surged up from the depths

of my mind.

Back then, she had looked at me just like this.

She had stood above me, watched coldly, and dumped every filthy rumor and accusation I had been

too powerless to fight onto me again and again.

It was strange.

After all these years, this scene somehow overlapped with the past.

Suddenly, I smiled at her.

Then, right in front of her, I opened the passenger door and got in.

Celeste liked Rafe.

She liked him almost pathologically.

It had been that way back then.

It was still that way now.

As we drove from the outskirts into the city, the stars overhead were gradually replaced by

Manhattan’s neon lights.

The car was very quiet.

The two SUVS behind us followed the entire time, like two black shadows.

After a long while, Rafe spoke first.

“Where do you live?”

The car slowly pulled over to the curb.

I had only gotten into his car to get under Celeste’s skin.

That did not mean I wanted to stay tangled up with him.

“I’ll get out here. Thank you.”

I had just reached for my seat belt when the car suddenly lurched forward.

I froze instinctively and turned to look at him.

Rafe stared ahead with a dark expression.

“When you’re willing to tell me, I’ll take you home.”

“Rafe, you always say these childish things to me.”

“I’m not a tool for you to use against Celeste.”

I leaned back in the passenger seat and took a deep breath.

“Please don’t make things between us even more unbearable.”

The car stopped hard again.

Fortunately, it was late at night, and aside from our convoy, there was no one else on the road.

Rafe finally turned to look at me,

His body blocked the streetlight, and the interior lights had gone out with the engine, making it feel

as if the entire world had fallen into darkness.

“Did you forget?”

His voice was very low, with anger buried beneath it.

“You were the one who started this.”

I had not yet recovered from the sudden stop when he leaned closer. One hand braced against the

edge of the seat beside me, trapping me between his body and the seat.

He was too close.

Close enough that I could see the faint red at the corners of his

eyes.

“Why did things between us become unbearable?”

“Sera, didn’t you cause all of this yourself?”

His tone was mocking, but there was a barely perceptible catch in it.

“You won’t let me take you home because you’re afraid I’ll get attached to you again, aren’t you?”

“Sera, don’t you think you’re overestimating yourself?”

“I’m Rafe Vittori. What kind of woman can’t I have? Do you really think I can’t live without you?”

After saying that, he suddenly sat back and turned his face toward the window.

“Get out.”
