I Bit My Best Friend Until The System Spoiled Me Chapter 12

Part of it was because that annoying system had finally bolted, and the other part was something I couldn’t quite put into words.

The air radiating off Ethan was terrifyingly cold, so I silently took two steps away from him.

Immediately after, I noticed it grew even colder.

It wasn’t until I sprinted the rest of the way home that I finally felt the gaze pinned to my back completely vanish.

Right after dinner, Lucas called.

“Hey, desk mate, I need to tell you something,” he said, sounding a bit awkward. “I wasn’t ignoring

you on purpose last week. Your childhood best friend threatened me and told me to stay away from

you…”

I knit my brows, instinctively defending Ethan. “How is that possible? Ethan has never hit anyone in

his life.”

Lucas let out a dry, hollow laugh. “He didn’t hit me. But he caught me cheating on the AP mock

exam last week…”

Ethan used that to threaten Lucas into staying away from me?

Why?

My mind suddenly went into a chaotic mess, yet it was immediately accompanied by a faint,

inexplicable trace of happiness.

A sharp knock sounded at the door. While Lucas continued his rant against Ethan, I pulled the door

open.

“I’m serious, desk mate, that childhood friend of yours is a complete psycho.”

“He plays the gentle, caring best friend in front of you, but the other day his eyes looked like literal daggers when he talked to me. My knees practically went weak. You’d better stay far away from him.”

The air went dead silent as the phone was gently slid out of my hand by Ethan, who was standing right in front of me.

“Right. Thanks for the warning.”

Lucas went completely mute on the other end, and the line clicked dead in the next second.

I felt like Ethan was acting incredibly strange today-especially his eyes right now, which were dark, brooding, and intense, like a massive storm about to break.

“Chloe, I don’t think Lucas is a good person. What do you think?”

He handed the phone back to me and suddenly spoke up, leaving me staring at him in a total daze,

“Even though I dislike him so much, I’ve never badmouthed him to you. Yet he’s talking trash about

me behind my back?”

I swallowed hard, instinctively nodding my head.

Ethan’s voice took on a distinctly low, magnetic trace of persuasion.

“So, don’t care about him anymore, okay?”

Following his lead, I answered automatically, “Okay… wait, no.”

I had never liked Lucas in the first place. What the hell was he talking about?

“Chloe, why is it that when you finally realize what romance is, the person you choose isn’t me?”

My eyes widened violently, my heart skipping a massive beat as I stared at Ethan’s face, completely

struck dumb.

His eyes pooled with a distinct trace of melancholy, and he actually looked a bit vulnerable and

aggrieved.

“I’ve waited for you for so many years. Why would you fall for someone else? Is he more handsome

than me?”

I shook my head. Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly.

“Does he smell better than me?”

I shook my head again.

Ethan’s fingertips slowly tugged down his collar.

“Does he… taste better than me?”

I was just about to shake my head when I suddenly realized something was deeply wrong.

“I didn’t bite him. I can’t answer that question.”

Ethan lowered his head, his dark, bottomless eyes pressing down on me as his voice dropped into a raspy, low growl.

“Liar. I saw it with my own eyes. You wanted to bite him today.”

He reached out and gently guided me into his embrace.

Standing close enough to hear his thudding heartbeat, with his stark, cold-white skin right in front

of my face, a violent itch flared up from my jaw straight into my heart.

“Chloe, it’s been almost ten days since you last bit me.”

“Please. Just take a bite.”

“I promise I taste a lot better than Lucas. Just try it…”
