I Bit My Best Friend Until The System Spoiled Me Chapter 06

The system snapped at me in a furious huff.

[The Male Lead has been waiting on you hand and foot for years, and the Female Lead is transferring in next week. You’d better not act up, NPC.]

Our eyes locked while my fingers nervously picked at the tumbler in my hands.

“I brought my own water today. Thanks for the smoothie, but you don’t need to bring me one tomorrow.”

The noisy classroom seemed to suddenly fall dead silent. Ethan stared at me quietly, the faint, flickering starlight in his eyes completely vanishing, replaced only by a mixture of intense frustration and utter bewilderment.

“You won’t ever have to.”

When I handed the washed tumbler back to Ethan, his voice came out incredibly raspy.

“Chloe, did I do something to make you mad?”

His voice was dropped very low, yet every single word cut through clearly to me.

For a moment, I was completely at a loss for words. It was blatantly obvious that he was the one who hated me, yet I could clearly detect a distinct trace of grievance in his tone.

“No.”

“Then why are you suddenly going to see a doctor? And… lying to me about it.”

Hesitating for a couple of seconds, I spoke softly.

“I just want to be normal, Ethan.”

His handsome features twisted, his brows knitting tightly together.

“I’ve never once thought you weren’t normal. It’s just a little quirk…”

The system started squawking again, trying to block me from talking to Ethan. It kept shrieking about how Ethan frowned the exact second he laid eyes on me, warning me to stop talking to him.

[Look at how much you’ve tortured our Male Lead. He’s covered in your little puppy teeth marks every single day and he still thinks it’s normal. What kind of normal person goes around gnawing on people?]

[Hurry up and shut your mouth. Can’t you see the frustration pouring out of every line on his face?]

A heavy wave of irritation flared up in my own chest too, mostly because every single word out of the system’s mouth was the brutal truth.

Ethan’s dark, brooding angst felt so suffocating it practically strangled the surrounding air.

“Like you said, it’s a quirk. You’re the only one who thinks it’s normal. When I mentioned it to Lucas this morning, he immediately said it was abnormal and started analyzing it as some kind of psychological dependency…”

The sharp, piercing screech of a chair scraping against the floor cut through the room as Ethan’s expression grew even darker and more menacing.

“Why the hell would you talk to him about it? You promised this was something only the two of us knew…”

A massive shadow completely enveloped me as Ethan stepped closer. My heart skipped a violent beat, and I instinctively took a step back.

“I only told him I had a condition like that! I didn’t say a single thing about what goes on between us, I swear, you don’t have to worry…”

Maybe it was just my imagination, but Ethan’s breathing seemed to grow significantly heavier and rougher.

“So everything lately… it’s all because of Lucas…”

The sharp blare of the school bell rang out, swallowing the rest of Ethan’s words into the noise.

When the final bell rang that evening, Ethan was already standing rigidly right in front of our desk. Lucas packed up his practice exams at lightning speed and bolted from the room like his life depended on it.

I trailed silently behind Ethan, feeling the atmosphere between us grow increasingly suffocating with every step.

Ethan had always been a guy of few words, but over the past few days, his silence had become an absolute, freezing winter.
