I Became the Villainess So I Struck First Chapter 06

Derek stood by the vehicle, his gaze sweeping over the crowd.

A dozen armed soldiers followed behind him. Several military trucks idled at the entrance, engines

rumbling.

The crowd erupted in joy.

“The military! It’s the military!”

“We’re saved! We’re saved!”

Some charged forward, only to be blocked by soldiers. Others dropped to their knees, sobbing “Help me!” Parents squeezed through with children, desperate to be seen.

Derek frowned slightly and raised a hand,

A soldier picked up a megaphone and shouted, “Quiet! Everyone quiet! Listen to the officer!”

The crowd gradually fell silent.

Derek took a step forward. His voice was low, but every word carried clearly.

“The base sent us to evacuate survivors. We have limited vehicles+we can’t take everyone at

once.”

He paused.

“Power users board first. The rest will wait for the next convoy.”

Chaos broke out instantly.

“Why do power users get priority?”

“My son’s badly hurt, he’s dying-save him first!”

“Sir, please, take me with you…”

A jumble of voices merged into one.

My fever hadn’t broken. My body burned, pain seeping into my bones. I leaned against the wall, dazed, the noise sounding distant. But I had no time to care.

I scanned the crowd. The white figure was still there.

Elena was still there, by the cluster of wounded, bending to tend to someone’s injury.

At Derek’s words, she lifted her head and glanced toward the trucks.

I looked away, gripping my knife, thinking through how to kill Elena once we reached the base,

under military supervision.

The fever raged, my eyelids too heavy to lift.

In my foggy state, a clear voice suddenly cut through the noise-

“Brother!”

I opened my eyes.

The little girl I’d saved was sprinting for the entrance, stumbling through the crowd, throwing

herself at Derek.

Derek spun around sharply.

In that instant, all coldness vanished from his face.

“Cissy!”

He strode forward, caught her up in his arms, and crushed her to his chest in a tight embrace.

His head was bowed, shoulders shaking- I couldn’t see his face, but I saw his trembling hands.

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere… I thought I’d lost you…”

The girl wrapped her arms around his neck, sobbing hysterically.

“Brother… Mom… Mom’s dead… A zombie bit her… This sister saved me… She killed three

zombies…”

Derek looked up, following where the girl pointed.

His gaze locked onto me.

I met his gaze from where I leaned against the wall, and a sudden understanding clicked into place.

Last life, this girl must have died to the zombies. Without her sending a signal, the military had arrived far too late.

Derek carried her over and stopped in front of me, saluting.

“Thank you for saving her.”

I shook my head.

“It was nothing.”

The girl peeked out from his arms, waving at me.

“Sis! This is my brother! He’s so strong!”

I stared at her and tugged the corner of my mouth.

It was as close to a smile as I could manage.

Everyone’s eyes fixed on me, whispers breaking out.

“That woman saved Officer Derek’s sister?”

“I saw her kill zombies earlier-lots of them!”

“Incredible, a normal person taking down zombies?”

Annoying. So annoying. I wanted to kill every noisy fool here.

I leaned against the wall, hung my head, and stayed silent.

Derek turned back to the crowd, his voice cold again.

“Ability users, board now. The rest of you, wait for the next convoy.”

He faced me once more. “Miss, you may board as well.”

The crowd stirred again. Before I could speak, a voice rang out.

“Sir, I’d like to stay.”

Everyone froze.

I opened my eyes.

Elena had stepped forward. Her white dress was stained with blood, making her face look paler and more fragile.

“I have a healing ability,” Elena said, her voice steady and assured. “But I volunteer to remain and care for the wounded. Please, give my spot to someone who needs it more than I do.”

The crowd fell quiet for a beat.

Elena’s eyes were shiny with unshed tears. “My ability is newly awakened. It’s… unstable. But I can stay. I can help look after everyone here.”

She walked to an elderly woman and took her hand.

“Grandma, you take my seat. Your leg is injured—you need treatment right away.”

The old woman stared, then burst into tears.

“Dear girl… you…”

Elena shook her head with a soft smile. “It’s the least I can do.”

The crowd erupted in praise.

“What a kind soul!”

“An ability user giving up her spot? Incredible.”

“I’ve never seen such selflessness!”

Derek looked at her too, surprise flashing in his eyes.

“What’s your name?”

“Elena.”

“Elena.” He nodded. “You’ve done well.”

Elena lowered her head, cheeks flushing.

“I didn’t do much…”

People began to call out.

“I’ll stay too!”

“Let the elderly and children go first!”

One by one, several people stepped forward, volunteering to remain.

I spoke up at once. “I can defend myself. I’ll stay too.”

Ridiculous. If Elena wasn’t leaving, how could I kill her if I went?

Derek scanned the group and nodded.

“Very well. The base will remember your courage!”

The elderly, children, and critically wounded were loaded onto the trucks.

Elena stood to the side, watching them leave…

The setting sun painted her white dress gold.

So beautiful. Just like an angel.

I sneered, twirling my dagger between my fingers.

You chose to walk away from the path to heaven. Don’t blame me for the road to hell that lies ahead
