I Accidentally Slept With My Future Brother In Law Chapter 09

Back in the main hall, Father was happily daydreaming about the family’s future with his wealthy future sons-in-law.

He didn’t notice us at all.

We snuck back to our own manor and grabbed paper and pens at once.

The quill scratched loudly against the rough parchment, ink blurring occasionally.

We left a note for Father.

“Father, your daughters have left.”

I stared at it for a second, thinking it lacked drama.

I added one more line.

“Don’t grieve. Bury us facing the southern coast.”

Diana leaned over, thought it wasn’t enough, snatched the pen, and scrawled underneath.

“Leave lots of roasted suckling pig and honey cherry tarts!”

I looked at the words and held my forehead. “Diana, is this a will or a food order?”

We finished the note and hurried to our bedrooms to pack our things, determined to run.

“Where are we going? Do you have a plan?” I turned to Diana.

Diana’s eyes lit up. “The border!”

“Why there all of a sudden?”

“I heard the border markets have amazing roasted meat! Big chunks skewered on iron sticks,

sizzling with oil, covered in spices, huge portions-”

“Alright, wipe your drool.” I interrupted helplessly. “The border it is. I heard the knights

stationed there are tall, strong, and brave. Perfect for sightseeing.”

“Sis! We’re running for our lives and you’re still checking out guys?!”

“We’re faking death, not disappearing. We can live freely under new identities at the border.”

We exchanged a look and snickered in unison.

We slung on simple bags and snuck toward the back manor gate.

The back gate opened onto a quiet alley, leading to the main city road.

We ran all the way. The towering city gate was just ahead. We were almost free.

“Sister!”

A clear shout came from behind.

I turned around and sighed in relief. It wasn’t pursuers.

It was Liu, the top performer at Silver String Hall.

He wore a pale purple robe, holding a lace-embroidered silk handkerchief, running toward me

while wiping sweat.

“Sister, you’re leaving? What will we do?” He grabbed my hand, eyes teary.

“You still have half your fifty barrels of Burgundy wine stored at Silver String Hall! Who’ll

support us if you’re gone?”

“And our new lute ensemble-who will watch us perform?”

Before I could answer, a rough voice cut in.

“Miss Karel!”

The fat chef from the capital’s top tavern, The Golden Boar, came running, still holding his

huge iron roasting fork, his apron covered in grease.

“Miss Karel, you can’t leave! You still have fifty gold coins on your tab! We just got premium Normandy roasted suckling pig-crispy skin, tender meat, with plum sauce! You haven’t tried

it!”

Diana’s feet rooted to the stone ground.

“Normandy roasted suckling pig? With plum sauce?” She swallowed hard.

“Yes! And rosemary lamb chops, honey truffle pheasant, fresh baked almond cream tarts!”

“Sis.” Diana clung tightly to my velvet sleeve, her eyes wavering. “Maybe… we should think

again.”

“Think about what? Faking death is urgent! No food is worth

your

life!”

“But… it’s Normandy suckling pig…”

“Your life or pork?”

She twisted in agony. “Can… I have both?”

I stared at the sky, my temples throbbing.
