His Younger Self’s AI Loved Me More Than He Did Chapter 08

His Younger Self’s AI Loved Me More Than He Did Chapter 08

Summer days in Copenhagen are always long. At eight in the evening, the sky was still bright. It was my first week in this unfamiliar city.

After escaping everything in Fairview, I cut off all my old contacts and completely erased my trail.

The foreign language and streets I’d never walked down gave me a sense of safety I’d never felt before. Free of tangled relationships and endless waiting, I found a job as an illustrator at a small art gallery to make a living.

The man named Ethan Davis, along with everything in Fairview, was slowly being locked away in the deepest corners of my memory. I stepped out of the gallery. A crisp evening breeze hit my face.

I smoothed my hair and started walking toward my apartment, three blocks away. Meanwhile, across the ocean in Fairview, Ethan was searching for me like a madman. He’d checked every flight and pulled every string he had, but he couldn’t find a single trace of me.

Every night, when he dragged his exhausted body back to that empty house, the only thing waiting for him was my AI companion on the couch. “Welcome home, Ethan Davis.”

I had deliberately not installed any emotional module in her.

She had no feelings. She could only speak in that dead, lifeless tone. Ethan broke down countless times, trying to hold her, trying to talk to her. All he ever got back was a cold, hard shell and mindless, repetitive responses.

In those dead-silent nights, facing a shell that could never truly respond to him, he finally understood it firsthand.

The six months when he had vanished without a word, leaving me alone in that house, waiting day after day for nothing but a robot—this was the exact suffocating agony I had been through. He couldn’t understand how things had come to this.

He loved me. He loved me more than anything. When he was eighteen, he would’ve given his life without a second thought to protect me. That young love was passionate, fierce, and absolute.

But ten years is a long time. Even the most intense feelings can grow dull and weary under the erosion of time. He got used to my devotion and my dependence.

During that long, tired stretch of the relationship, he finally gave in and secretly started something with Maya.

The love that had once been mine alone was casually split and handed to someone else. Later, Maya got pregnant and cried and begged him to stay by her side.

He couldn’t bear to lose me, his wife of ten years, but he also wanted to soothe the mistress carrying his child. So he agreed to Maya’s demands and smugly thought he could just fob me off with a robot loaded with his eighteen-year-old memories.

Thus began this whole absurd, cruel farce.

Another sleepless night. Ethan came home, completely drained. “Welcome home, Ethan Davis.” Still that same emotionless female voice.

Just then, his phone vibrated sharply. It was the private investigator.

[Mr. Davis, we found her. Your wife is in Copenhagen. I’m sending you the specific address now.]

In that single sentence, the dead silence in Ethan’s eyes was instantly obliterated.

Ethan booked a flight to Copenhagen. He packed his bags and was just about to head out the door. That’s when he ran straight into Maya, waiting outside with the baby in her arms.

“Ethan, where have you been these past few days? Why haven’t you been answering my calls?”

“Maya, this ends here.” Ethan cut her off.

“I’m signing over a few properties and transferring a lump sum into your account. More than enough for you and the baby to live comfortably.”

He stepped past her, gaze not lingering for a second. “Don’t come looking for me again. Don’t contact me anymore.”

Maya saw the luggage in his hand and grabbed his wrist. “You’re cutting me off! You’re going after Zara, aren’t you?”
