His Tardiness, Her New Marriage Chapter 10

His Tardiness, Her New Marriage Chapter 10

Sloane strode up to my side.

She deliberately kept her tone light. “Audrey, you really… you nearly gave Blake a heart attack.”

She smiled, her eyes scanning the wedding dress I was wearing. “This one looks nice too, but the star of the show isn’t supposed to be attending someone else’s wedding. Come on, let’s go back. Everyone’s waiting.”

I didn’t move.

She leaned in closer, a slight smirk playing on her lips.

“Audrey, I know that legally, you’re kind of the other woman right now, but don’t take it to heart. We know the truth, and that’s all that matters.”

She winked, her voice cheerful.

“Congratulations on your wedding.”

I looked at her, the corners of my mouth turning up. “Thank you.”

Sloane’s smile froze. She hadn’t expected that reaction.

Blake walked up to me.

His eyes held a mix of reprimand and exasperation.

But mostly, they held a sense of control, an “I knew you’d throw a fit, but you’ll have to come back in the end” kind of certainty.

“Finished with your call? Let’s go. We’ve wasted a lot of time, but we can still make it.”

He paused.

As if to showcase his generosity, he added, “If you really like the decorations in this ballroom…”

He glanced around. “I’ll go negotiate with the Ashfords. Maybe we can switch. As long as you’re happy.”

He said it so naturally, so matter-of-factly.

As if my being here, wearing a different wedding dress, was nothing more than a childish, reckless tantrum.

And he was the magnanimous, perfect husband-to-be, here to bring his fiancée home.

The groomsmen and bridesmaids behind him watched me with certainty, waiting.

Waiting for me to do what I had always done, after every small “protest” and “tantrum.”

To obediently, gratefully, return to Blake’s side.

To walk toward the wedding that belonged to “Mrs. Harrington.”
