“Have my back?” I raised an eyebrow.

“Of course.” He patted his chest lightly. “For example, I can tell you which professors are the toughest, which studio has the cheapest materials, and where to find the best pizza on campus.”

This was a way of talking I had never experienced before.

No hierarchy, no probing, no kindness with hidden conditions. Just the natural ease and sincerity between two people of the same age.

So this was how people talked at a normal university.

The bell rang, ending the class. The professor assigned the reading list for next week, and students began packing up.

Liam and I walked out side by side, still discussing class details. Just then, a girl with a high ponytail and a face full of energy rushed over like a whirlwind.

“Elara! There you are! Come with me!” She grabbed my arm.

“Chloe, what’s going on?” She nearly pulled me off balance.

“Don’t ask, just come on!” Chloe’s eyes were shining. “There’s a super handsome guy on the main lawn. Like, straight out of a movie. I heard he’s a transfer student!”

I frowned, completely uninterested in campus gossip. “Chloe, I still need to go to the library—”

“The library can wait. A guy this handsome is a once-in-a-semester event!”
