His Smokescreen Is Now the Woman He Can’t Have Chapter 33

That was before my father’s scandal. Before my life was turned upside down. A short, bright period of my life that was impossible to forget.

I remembered.

The boy next door who had broken his arm falling from a tree, crying with a red nose but stubbornly refusing to tell any adults. In the end, I had secretly used my allowance to buy him the biggest ice cream I could find.

The boy at my mother’s funeral who had been the only one not to look at me with pity, just silently slipping a piece of chocolate into my hand.

“Liam…” I said the name slowly. “Liam Chen?”

“You remember.” Liam let out a breath of relief, and that clean, bright smile returned to his face. For a second, it perfectly overlapped with the little boy in my memory.

“When I saw Elara Vance on the new student list, majoring in architectural design, I wondered if it could really be such a coincidence,” he explained. “I never expected it was actually you.”

The tight shell I kept around my heart loosened just a little. I didn’t even notice the corners of my mouth lifting into a small smile.

“You’ve changed a lot, too,” I said. “I remember you weren’t as tall as me back then.”

“Hey, let a guy keep some dignity,” Liam protested dramatically, then laughed. “But I’m a year ahead of you now. So in the architecture school, I’ll have your back.”
