Felix was supposed to be with Tanya.

“Mr. Ross?”

Ethan Ross crossed the room, placed a thermos of chicken soup on the table, and immediately

raised one hand.

“Don’t move.”

“You just had emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer.”

“You need to stay still.”

Ethan was Felix’s biggest rival.

For years, he had tried to recruit me, sending an occasional message whenever Ross Group had an

opening he thought I would consider.

But in reality, we had only met a few times at industry events.

I never expected my emergency call to reach him.

Embarrassment warmed my face.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Ross.”

“I’ve caused you a lot of trouble.”

He smiled and shook his head.

“You work for Ross Group now.”

“As your employer, making sure you survive your first day is the least I can do.”

Then his tone shifted.

“Felix doesn’t know you’re here, does he?”

“Should I call him before he starts worrying?”

Felix and I had never made our relationship public at work.

But Ethan was his biggest competitor.

Naturally, he had done his research.

What Ethan didn’t know was that Felix and I were already finished.

I looked up at him and smiled.

“Felix was beside me when the pain became unbearable.”

“I asked him to take me to the hospital.”

“He refused and took Tanya instead.”

Ethan paused.

Then he nodded slowly.

“Was the intern badly injured?”

“She scratched her finger.”

Silence filled the room.

Ethan’s brow tightened.

Then he shook his head and gave a quiet, contemptuous laugh.

“I always thought Felix was ruthless but intelligent.”

“Apparently, that only applies to business.”

“In his personal life, he has no judgment and even less decency.”

“I used to consider him a worthy opponent.”

“Now I find him embarrassing.”

I said nothing.

But my curiosity about Ethan grew.

I hadn’t expected him to be so direct-or so principled.

After a while, Ethan returned to the office to deal with work.
