His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 05

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 05

That night, I packed my bags.

There wasn’t much to pack. Besides the essentials, I put all the expensive jewelry and couture dresses

Zachary had given me into a safe deposit box. Since Ethan said I could keep them, I took them without

hesitation.

Just as I zipped my last suitcase, the penthouse door buzzed.

The door swung open, and a tall, unsteady figure stumbled inside, reeking of alcohol. Zachary.

I was surprised.

Shouldn’t he be pouring his heart out to Lynn?

What was he doing back here?

I stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at him.

Zachary loosened his tie, exposing pale skin.

He looked up, saw me, then glanced at my suitcases, and his dark eyes went icy.

“Where are you going?” His voice was hoarse, leaving no room for argument.

I immediately went into character – eyes darting away, voice timid.

“Mr. Zachary, now that Miss Moore is back, it’s not right for me to stay. I’m moving out.”

“Moving out?” Zachary laughed coldly, bounded up the stairs, and grabbed my wrist – painfully tight. “Chloe,

who said you could leave?”

I gasped, my eyes instantly watering.

That really hurt!

Work-related injury for sure!

“Zachary, let go!” I struggled. “You made it perfectly clear at the restaurant – I’m your brother’s. If I’m his, I should go back to him.”

That struck a nerve.

Zachary shoved me hard against the stair railing, his alcohol-laced breath hot on my face, his eyes fierce as a cornered wolf.

“Do you really think of yourself as my brother’s woman?” he hissed, gripping my chin.

“Don’t forget for three years, who held you in his arms every night? Who made you beg for mercy in bed?”

I rolled my eyes inwardly.

Sure, I begged, but that was because he was like a machine I had to wake up early to report to my boss.

On the outside, I put on a “dead inside” look and let the tears fall.

“But Zachary, you love her. For three years, when you looked at me, weren’t you really looking at her? Now

that she’s back, shouldn’t this cheap imitation know when to leave?”

I thought my dramatic, despairing confession might stir a shred of guilt – enough for him to just wave me

off and tell me to get lost.

I was wrong.

When Zachary heard the word “imitation,” something flickered in his eyes – not relief, but something far

more complicated.

He stared into my eyes, then suddenly kissed me – hard.

Not gentle.

Just brutal and punishing.

He forced my mouth open, pouring in alcohol and resentment, like he wanted to devour me whole.

I couldn’t breathe.

I pushed against his chest.

Was this man insane?

His first love was right outside, and he came back to devour his stand-in?
