His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 03

His Dead Lover Came Back I Asked for Overtime Pay Chapter 03

“Hey, isn’t this Miss Parker?”

A man sat down boldly across from me, and I was forced to look away.

A familiar playboy.

“We were just betting yesterday about when Zachary would dump you, and here you are all alone today.”

He smiled maliciously, sizing me up.

Then he took out his phone, snapped a picture of me, and posted it in a group chat.

“Look who I ran into. It seems Mr. Collins really has decided to dump her.”

At that moment, I found myself thinking: if I got harassed by Zachary’s playboy friend, could I file a work-related injury claim with Ethan too?

“Without him, how are you going to keep up your lavish lifestyle?”

He gave me a sidelong glance.

“Why don’t you spend a few nights with me? Twenty grand for your time — how does that sound?”

I really wanted to throw my wine in his face and say, “You’re not as generous as my boss.”

But I still had my “deeply in love” image to maintain.

I said gently, “That’s not true. Zach said he had something to do. He’ll come with me next time.”

The man laughed and nodded toward the distance. “See over there? Who’s that?”

I took one look and said firmly, “That’s just a friend of his. I don’t interfere with his social life.”

The man stood up and walked toward them, determined to make me see Zachary’s coldness.

Great.

I hid my excitement and quickly followed.

I needed a perfect exit — one that would leave no room for doubt.

Zachary would definitely distance himself from me in front of his first love.

And I, “devastated” but with my pride intact, would leave heartbroken.

That way, I’d get my severance quickly and smoothly.

Maybe Zachary would even cut me a fat check out of guilt.

From then on, we’d go our separate ways.

After all, Ethan had said I could keep all the jewelry and money Zachary had given me.

I followed the playboy to Zachary’s table. Both of them turned to look at me.

Sure enough, when Zachary saw me, his expression shifted slightly. He stared straight at me.

The woman asked, “Your girlfriend?”

Zachary didn’t answer.

The playboy grinned.

“Nah. Mr. Collins here has only ever had eyes for you, Lynn. Right, Zachary?”

I immediately put on an act.

My lashes fluttered, and I looked at Zachary with reddened eyes.

Zachary watched me with lazy indifference. After a moment, he tilted his chin.

“My brother’s little pet.”

The woman — Lynn — froze.

The playboy and I were both taken aback.

Sure, Ethan was my boss, but that was a perfectly legitimate employment relationship!

Lynn snorted. “I don’t buy that. The way she looks at you isn’t innocent at all. You two are close, aren’t you?”

The playboy muttered, “No way, is that for real?”

Zachary’s eyes were dark.

He calmly took a sip of wine, then looked at me with deliberate composure.

“My brother asked me to look after her, so of course we’ve talked. Right?”

I understood that look. Casual, telling me not to cause trouble.

But I wanted a clean break.

Zachary could have just thrown me a check and coldly told me to get lost, not randomly pin a fake label on me. That was an insult to my perfectly professional relationship with Ethan.

Lynn wasn’t easily fooled.

“I know your brother. He doesn’t just want any woman. Show me proof.”

Just then, the waiter approached and said respectfully, “Miss Parker, have you finished your meal? Mr. Collins instructed us to charge your bill to his account, and you won’t need reservations in the future. Also, we’ve arranged a car to take you home.”

The air was still.
