His Captive Obsession Chapter 07

His Captive Obsession Chapter 07

I fell deeply in love with a rabbit.

Don’t find it weird; love takes many forms.

Family love, friendship, romance…

Destiny had brought us together, and the rabbit definitely wanted to be my friend too.

“What are you muttering about? Zoe, go stand by the door as punishment.”

Mom stood with her hands on her hips, pointing at me. “Ashton, if you keep spoiling her like this, you’re getting punished too!”

The two of us slunk back into the bakery, getting completely chewed out by Mom for spending nearly four thousand dollars on a genetically flawed rabbit.

“I’ll transfer the money to you,” Mom told Ashton.

“Please don’t, it was my choice,” Ashton replied, his shoulders slumping.

If two people want a future together, they have to be willing to owe each other things.

Even a kid like me knew that keeping a perfect tally meant you were keeping your distance.

“Boss! Something happened!” another part-time worker gasped, running into the bakery with her phone in hand.

Mom’s face completely drained of color as she listened to the news.

I caught words like “food poisoning” and “police.”

The adults looked incredibly tense but managed to keep their composure.

Since there was no one to watch me, they piled me into the car with them.

Our destination was the Vance Estate.

I figured it was Daddy’s real home.

During the drive, I listened to their anxious conversation and pieced together what happened.

Yesterday, a wealthy client had ordered a massive layout of cakes for their daughter’s birthday party.

A lot of kids ate it, and by evening, they were all in the hospital with severe vomiting and diarrhea from food poisoning.

The hospital traced it back to the cake.

Mom drove while Ashton watched me in the back.

The other worker didn’t have clearance for the gated community, so she went home.

The three of us entered the Vance Estate.

It was absolutely massive, requiring a private golf cart just to take us from the main gates to the house.

There was no moon in the sky.

After a long drive, a grand modern estate came into view, with a massive garden behind it stretching out into the darkness.

Through the towering glass windows, I could see a huge crowd gathered in the main living room.

The moment we stepped inside, a wave of furious insults hit us.

I recognized many of the parents from my school’s events; they were all dripping in diamonds and clearly very wealthy.

“What do we do now?”

“How did a woman like this even get her kid into an exclusive private school?”

“Her character is disgusting!”

“I looked into her—she used to sell hot dogs on a street corner, and her records before that are completely wiped clean. Looking at her face, her daughter only got into that school because she’s some rich guy’s secret mistress.”

“Exactly, no one has ever seen the kid’s father.”

“A fatherless bastard!”

Mom stood defenseless against the onslaught, shielding me behind her back.

“Has the cake been sent for testing yet?” she asked firmly.

The famous actress, whose real name was Victoria Sterling, stepped forward.

“It’s been thrown out,” she sneered. “If I say your cake caused it, then it caused it.”

Another parent chimed in, “Do you seriously think we’re framing you? Who do you think you are?”

“Just a trashy social climber.”

Mom took a deep breath. “Miss Sterling, I don’t even know you. But you’ve been targeting me ever since your daughter transferred to our school six months ago.”

“I’ve actually known who you were for five years,” Victoria replied coldly. “I just never had the chance to ruin you until now.”

I had no idea about any of this.

I suddenly remembered how Mom’s hot dog cart had been confiscated by city inspectors three times, forcing us to change businesses.

Mom had told me that was just part of running a business.

She had hidden the fact that this horrible woman was bullying her.

How infuriating! I needed to grow up faster so I could protect her.

Victoria crossed her arms, looking down her nose at us.

“Oh, so you noticed. Not everyone who gets targeted did something wrong. I just don’t like the sight of you.”

“What exactly do you want?” Mom asked.

“Withdrawal. Take your kid and get out of the school.”

Victoria stepped closer, her eyes narrowing. “Tristan doesn’t even remember you, yet you still have the nerve to use his resources. Our wedding is set for September—I’ll make sure to send you an invitation, you homewecker.”

I quietly reached into my pocket and pulled out a fat, juicy caterpillar I had found on the flower shipments earlier.

Go get her, buddy. Time to shine.

Since Ashton was holding me, I easily flicked the caterpillar right onto Victoria’s chest.

“You little brat, what did you do?! Ahhh, a bug!”

She lunged forward to slap me, but Ashton immediately shielded me in his arms, and Mom stepped in front of us.

“If you want to handle this, let’s talk somewhere private,” Mom said.

“Fine,” Victoria hissed, signaling a few private security guards. “Take her upstairs.”
