When I opened my eyes again, only the doctor was there.

“Eight weeks pregnant. There’s a risk of miscarriage.”

“Do you want to keep it?”

I froze. My hand went to my stomach.

I’d waited ten years for this child. I’d even set up a nursery for him.

I opened my mouth, and my stomach twitched.

Like he was letting me know he was there.

The doctor gave me a long look and sighed.

“You’re awake. Good. No time wasted.”

“Lyra needs a blood transfusion. You have the same type.”

“Come with me.”

He pulled me up.

The IV came out with a jerk. Blood spilled across the green sheet.

He didn’t notice.

I yanked my hand free.

“No.”

He turned to look at me.

“Elara, I know you’re upset. But this isn’t the time to be difficult.”

He saw the blood on the sheet.

His face flickered—but his voice stayed cold.

“If you donate, I’ll give you back your mother’s necklace.”

He was still threatening me.

I closed my eyes.

“I’m pregnant.”

“Elara, you’d lie about something like this just to avoid helping?”

“When did you become so cruel?”

His face darkened. Impatience crept into his voice.

“You caused a scene at the wedding and upset Lyra.”

“Then at the Hales’, you spilled the drink and scared her into fainting.”

“Even if you don’t like her, you should at least think about her baby!”

Cruel?

The same man who once stood in front of me and told my father I wasn’t cruel—

was now calling me cruel.

I should have felt something.

Instead, I just felt numb.

He stared at my empty expression. He was about to speak—

Soren appeared at the door.

“Leith, are you done? Lyra’s crying again.”

Whatever hesitation Leith had left disappeared.

He grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of bed.

“Elara, stop being stubborn. Let’s go.”

I almost laughed.

After everything, he still called me stubborn.

I didn’t fight. I just looked at him.

“Give me the necklace first.”

He paused.

Then he placed the violet gemstone in my palm.

When the needle went in, I remembered.

Soren said he’d be the first godfather when I had a baby.

Odette hugged me and said she’d help with the nursery.

Leith held my hand and said, “Our child doesn’t have to be perfect. Just safe.”

I believed them back then.

Now Soren was at Lyra’s bedside.

Odette was crying with her.

Leith stood in the hallway and never once looked back.

Everyone had turned against me.

The blood filled the bag. 100ml. 200ml. 300ml.

My lips went white.

A warm rush came from beneath me.

The nurse looked down and went pale.

“How could you draw blood from a pregnant woman?”

The pain in my stomach grew sharper.

The nurse called for a doctor.

From the other end of the hall, I heard Lyra crying—and a group of voices surrounding her.

Leith stayed at the hospital all week. He sent me messages.

I didn’t reply to any of them.

He told himself I was just mad.

On the day of the wedding, he and his friends showed up at the hotel.

The ballroom was pitch black.

He called the manager.

“What’s going on? This is how you set up a wedding?”

The manager looked confused.

“Wedding? Ms. Hale canceled it.”
