His Assistant Gave the Bride Rules?! She Didn’t Know Who She Was Messing With Chapter 03

The guests’ stares made Chloe squirm.

Desperate to regain control, she pulled out her phone and called Ryan.

The moment he answered, her manner changed completely.

Her arrogance vanished, replaced by a trembling, wounded voice.

“Ryan, please come back. I was only trying to explain the wedding arrangements to Claire so she wouldn’t embarrass herself today. I didn’t do anything wrong, but she refused to listen. Then she insulted me in front of everyone and called me controlling. She said horrible things to me…”

She lowered her eyes and squeezed out a few tears, looking fragile and innocent.

Guests who didn’t know what had happened began to watch her with sympathy.

I remained where I was with my arms folded, observing her clumsy performance.

I had assumed that even if Ryan favored Chloe, he would at least ask what had happened before deciding who was at fault.

Instead, his cold, irritated voice can

“Put me on speaker.”

Without asking what had happened, Ryan launched straight into a tirade.

“Claire Bennett, are you finished?”

Every word dripped with blame.

“This is our wedding day, and you’re turning one tiny disagreement into a public spectacle. Are you trying to humiliate me?

“Chloe has worked herself to exhaustion organizing this wedding. You don’t have to thank her, but

now you’re bullying her in front of our guests?”

His tone hardened into a threat.

“I’m giving you one last chance. Apologize to Chloe right now. If you keep acting like this, we might as well cancel the wedding.”

I laughed at the sheer absurdity of it.

“Ryan Carter, aren’t you afraid the wedding really will be canceled?”

The noise from the ballroom swallowed the finer details of my voice.

Ryan still hadn’t realized that I wasn’t Claire. Assuming his fiancée was sulking, he grew even Queler.

“Canceled? You know exactly where you stand, Claire. You’ve spent three years in my bed and built your whole life around me. You have nowhere else to go. Who else do you think would want you

now?”

A collective gasp rippled through the guests.

His voice turned colder.

“No one is obligated to indulge your temper.

“My company just secured a major investment. I’m still willing to marry you today, but only if you behave. If you don’t, the wedding is over, and you won’t get a cent from me.”

Then he softened his voice, as if offering a kindness.

“Chloe will oversee everything today. Just cooperate, Claire. Don’t make this any harder for her.”

This was the man my best friend had given up a high-paying career to support.

He had never loved her. To him, their three-year relationship was only something he could control.

Disgust and fury surged through me.

I had never met a man so heartless and selfish.

Claire had given him everything for three years, and he treated her devotion as something cheap

enough to trample.

Unable to take another word of it, I snatched the phone straight out of Chloe’s hand.

It struck the marble floor with a sharp crack and shattered.

The noisy ballroom fell silent for a beat.

I looked up at Chloe’s ashen face and pinned her with an icy stare.

It was time to end this farce for good.
