I didn’t really like her back then. Still, she had saved Alistair, so I treated her well.

At Alistair’s insistence, I brought her back with us and offered her enough compensation to last a

lifetime.

But she openly told everyone, “I didn’t save him to hold it over anyone’s head.”

So she turned down the money and asked instead for a position at Sterling Group.

That way, she could see Alistair every day.

inappropriate?”

“I’m just working here. What’s inappropriate about that?”

Later, I went to see Alistair and gently told him, “Miss Whitmore is still so young.”

“If people start getting the wrong idea, if rumors start spreading-that wouldn’t exactly be good

for her.”

He shot me a lazy glance and let out a scoff.

“She saved my life. So what-am I supposed to send her away and never see her again, just to make

you happy?”

See? Serena said I was hiding behind that engagement our families arranged.

But wasn’t she doing the exact same thing-hiding behind the debt of a saved life?

The coffee in my hand gradually turned cold.

I smiled at her. “We run in the same circle. We’re bound to run into each other. What’s the problem

with that?”

Everything I said was true.

Now that Alistair had returned, his identity had naturally changed as well.

Going forward, whether through business or social events, we were bound to cross paths.

Besides, no one was standing in the way of them being together now. I honestly didn’t get why she’d

come to me with this.

I looked at her. “What are you so afraid of, Miss Whitmore?”

Serena’s face went pale.

I had no interest in continuing the conversation.

As I stood up to leave, I suddenly heard her sharp voice behind me.

“Celestine, you did this on purpose, didn’t you?”

“You keep seeing him on purpose-just to trigger his memory.”

“You think that once he remembers, he’ll fall back in love with you?”

I paused. Her words almost made me laugh.

I brushed my hair back. “Yeah. I did it on purpose.”

“You-”

I had a lot of work waiting for me. I didn’t have time to stand there fielding her absurd accusations.

I turned on my heel and walked out, instructing Julian to see her out.

But I didn’t expect her to get into a car accident on the way back.

When people are scared, they sometimes do extreme things. It’s their way of holding on to a sense of safety.

Just like in my previous life, when I secretly forced Serena to leave.

And just like this time, when Serena’s accident happened right after she met me.

I heard that Alistair had been there too.

He had tried to pull her away, but failed, and both of them were hit and thrown to the ground.

Blood stained the fallen leaves. Serena lost the baby.

“Thank god they’re both okay. There’ll be other children.”

“Good thing the car wasn’t going that fast.”

Alistair frowned, his eyes scanning the room. He didn’t say a word.

Until Serena, who had just woken up, looked at him with tear filled eyes and apologized.

“I’m sorry, Alistair… I couldn’t protect our baby. It’s all my fault…’

“I never should have gone to see her today…”

She was wearing a hospital gown, her face pale, looking as if she might collapse at any moment.

Alistair stared at her. His voice was cold.

“A liar’s child. What right does it have to exist?”
