Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 09

Her New Life, His Eternal Pain Chapter 09 The One I Love Is Dead

Six years later. Lane Group’s centennial celebration.

Liam stood in the middle of the crowd. A practiced smile on his face. Accepting congratulations.

The awkward young man was gone. Now he was a cold, powerful CEO.

Under him, Lane Group had become the top company in the country.

“Hey, I just heard some crazy gossip about Mr. Lane.” A girl whispered to her friend, excited.

“They say he’s so ruthless and sharp now because of a broken heart.”

“Six years ago, he was supposed to get married. Halfway through, he just ditched his bride and ran.”

The other girl looked confused. “He ran off on his fiancée, and he’s the one with a broken heart?”

“Word is, the fiancée was forced on him. The one he really loved was someone else.”

“At the wedding, he got a call from her and took off. He was a wreck for months. And he’s still single, so… I bet she died.”

“No way. That’s some tragic rich-people drama.”

“You’re damn right.”

A cold voice spoke above their heads.

They looked up and nearly fell over.

Liam was standing right behind them. Handsome, tall, but his face was terrifying.

They stuttered. “M-Mr. Lane. We didn’t mean—”

He didn’t even look at them. Just muttered to himself.

“The one I love… is dead.”

Liam’s smile faded. He sat in a corner of the venue like a wooden statue.

Broad daylight. But the nightmare came anyway. Just like every day for six years.

The crowd vanished. The lights went out. Darkness.

Then a single beam lit up an abandoned factory.

Selene’s body lay on the ground. Gory. Violated.

The corpse moved. Creaked. Turned its head.

“Brother.”

A ghostly shriek. Bloody tears ran down its pale, filthy face.

Then the face swelled in front of him. Selene’s hands grabbed his throat.

“You killed me.”

“You captured that terrorist leader. They came after Fiona and me because of you.”

“You should be dead. Why aren’t you dead?!”

Liam let her choke him. He looked at his sister. Forced out three words.

“I’m… sorry…”

Then Selene burst apart like fireworks.

Liam slumped onto the couch. Coughing.

Through blurred vision, he saw someone sitting next to him.

Fiona. Soaking wet.

She turned to him. Calm smile.

Then blood started seeping from her eyes. Her nose. Her mouth. Her ears.

Dripping onto her white dress. Blooming like red flowers.

And still, she smiled gently.

“You’re a coward.” Her voice was soft. “You couldn’t blame yourself. So you blamed me instead.”

“Selene died because of you.”

“I got that drug-the one that killed my organs-because of you too.”

“But that’s not what killed me, Liam. I died because of you. Because of how you ground me down.”

The water on her body surged toward him. A tidal wave. Swallowed him whole.

He didn’t fight. Just let himself sink.

“Kill me. Please. Just kill me.”

“Maybe then I can pay you back.”

“Mr. Lane! Mr. Lane!”

…

Someone was calling him.

He opened his eyes. His secretary stood there. Holding his jacket. Staring at the red marks on Liam’s neck.

“Mr. Lane… you were having another episode.”

Liam slowly came back. He knew what that meant. He’d tried to hurt himself again.

“Should I call Dr. Joseph?”

Liam shook his head. Stood up. Grabbed his jacket. Walked out with heavy steps.

Outside, the sky was clear. Sun blinding.

Everyone was laughing. Playing.

A woman in a wheelchair smiled and pulled a child into her lap.

She felt someone watching her. Turned her head slowly.

The blur of her face sharpened. Became clear.

Liam’s eyes went wide.

“FIONA!”
