Her Best Friend Bragged Online About Having A Secret Family With Her Man Chapter 05

The expression on Cassie’s face froze the instant she recognized me.

Her pupils dilated sharply, her mouth hung slightly open, and the color drained from her face, leaving it as white as paper.

The phone in her hand hit the ground with a loud thwack.

Just then, Julian emerged from the line holding two cones of

artisan gelato.

“Miles, Cassie, I got the ice cream-”

He was shouting with a smile, but then he followed Cassie’s

frozen stare.

When he saw me standing ten feet away, watching him coldly.

The smile on his face died instantly, as if someone had hit the

pause button.

The crowd around us continued to bustle with laughter and

noise.

But between the three of us, it was as silent as a grave.

Cassie looked like she had seen a ghost. She subconsciously took a half–step back and gripped the hem of her dress.

I looked at them, a smile on my face that was so polite it was

almost cruel.

“Oh, what a coincidence. You guys are here too.”

My voice wasn’t loud, but every word was clear. “Aren’t you going to invite me back to your place?”

“Se… Sera…” Julian finally found his voice, but it was

incredibly raspy and trembling.

Cassie opened her mouth to refuse, but under my icy stare, she couldn’t utter a word.

She knew that if she refused now, I might tear off their blood–soaked veil right here in public.

But their son was delighted: “Daddy, Mommy, you know this pretty lady!”

“That’s great! Pretty lady, come play at our house!”

I looked at the excited Miles and smiled as I stroked his hair,

though my eyes grew even colder.

They had raised the child well–innocent and cheerful, unable

to read the tension in the air.

On the way back, the atmosphere in the car was bizarre.

Julian drove, his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard the veins on the back of his hands bulged.

Cassie held the boy on the other side of the backseat, shrinking into the corner, even her breathing becoming

cautious.

Only Miles was excited, sharing his little world with me.

“Pretty lady, my Daddy is so smart. He can fix all my toys.”

“Daddy and Mommy love each other the most. Every morning before Daddy leaves, he kisses Mommy, and then he kisses

me.”

“Daddy says I’m his most precious treasure, and no one can compare.”

I listened quietly, feeling my heart being sawn apart by a dull

blade, inch by inch.

Julian had said these things to me, too.

He said I was his life, his only salvation.

It turned out his “life” could be split in two, and his “salvation” could be replicated at any time.

I watched the city streets blur past the window. Suppressing the metallic taste of blood in my throat, I asked Miles softly, “And how did Daddy and Mommy meet?”

“Mommy said they’ve been together since they graduated university! Daddy even worked a bunch of extra jobs just to buy Mommy her favorite dresses!” Miles chattered on.

Cassie abruptly cut him off: “Miles! That’s enough. The lady is tired, let her rest for a bit.”

I turned my head and met Cassie’s guilty, terrified eyes. My lips curled into a sneer.

Together since graduation?

I narrowed my eyes at the back of Julian’s head in the driver’s

seat.

Julian, when we were reciting our wedding vows, who were you thinking about?
