He Wasn’t That Unconscious Chapter 06

Everyone froze.

The expressions on Sienna’s face and my parents’ faces immediately darkened.

The three of them exchanged a quick look.

Sienna reacted first, stepping in front of me again.

“Ignore her. She’s just some nurse who snuck in here. I’ll get rid of her.”

Her nails dug into my arm as she tried to drag me away.

Felix looked more awake now.

More focused.

“Move.”

His voice was low and sharp.

Nothing like the chatty spirit I’d spent six months with.

This was the real Felix Floyd.

Cold. Commanding.

Before I could process that, he lifted a hand and pointed straight at me.

“You. Come here.”

Sienna panicked.

She shot me a vicious look. “Don’t go.”

Her voice dropped to a whisper. “If you do, I’ll make you regret it. Don’t forget what I’ve put you through all these years. I still have plenty of ways to make your life miserable.

“Know your place. Felix isn’t someone you get to dream about.”

I hesitated.

Should I take Penelope’s compensation and leave?

Or take the risk and fight for myself?

But Sienna was still acting like she could control me, like she could bully me whenever she wanted. Something rebellious flared inside me.

I shoved her aside. “I’m going.”

I was done letting Sienna decide my fate.

So I deliberately raised my voice.

“Can’t you see Felix is calling me over? Why are you trying so hard to stop me? What are you hiding? Or are you scared I’ll expose you?”

Everyone heard it.

The reporters turned toward us. A flicker of doubt crossed Felix’s face.

Sienna’s face turned red. She reached for me again.

Penelope spoke quietly. “Let Ruth come over.”

The look on Penelope’s face told me she was still struggling with whether to tell Felix the truth.

Which meant my odds had just gotten better.

I pushed down the excitement building in my chest and walked to the bedside.

Felix narrowed his eyes, studying me for a few seconds.

“What’s your name?”

“Ruth.”

He frowned.

The strain on his face was obvious. He was trying to remember something, but nothing came.

My heart pounded. One second I felt hopeful. The next, completely hopeless.

The room fell silent.

Then Felix’s expression eased.

He looked at me, then at Sienna.

“You two, answer me. Right now… what do I want to eat most?”
