He Wanted an Open Relationship, So I Accepted Another Proposal Chapter 04

The next day, I skipped class and went to Grant’s off-campus apartment.

For two hours, I packed everything that belonged to me.

Piece by piece, I put it all into boxes.

By the end, there wasn’t a trace of me left in the room.

I dragged my suitcase to the entryway.

Grant came back right then.

His gaze flicked to the suitcase behind me, and impatience darkened his face.

“Harper, what are you doing?”

“It won’t look right if someone sees my things here.”

Grant pressed one hand down on the suitcase. “No one’s going to see it. Harper, this is our place. I won’t bring anyone else here.”

I tugged at the corner of my mouth.

I ignored his nonsense and tried to walk around him.

He grabbed my wrist. “Harper.”

His voice dropped, edged with irritation.

“What now? We didn’t break up. We’re just giving each other space and trying other people.”

I stopped and slowly looked up at him.

Those pretty eyes had once pulled me under.

Now all I saw in them was arrogance, the kind that made me sick.

Calmly, I pulled my wrist free. “No. I’m old-fashioned. I can’t do an open relationship. I’ve spent years feeling insecure. I’m tired. Let’s end it here.”

Grant’s eyes sharpened.

It was like he had heard the funniest joke in the world.

“End it here?” He leaned down, his breath brushing my ear. “Then what’s going on with Adrian? Harper, word already reached Ashford.”

“You’re telling everyone you have a crush on him.”

For a second, I froze.

Then I met his stare. “So what?”

“Wow.” He let out a cold laugh. “Harper, don’t use Adrian as a shield just to piss me off. Everyone knows he’s hated you since you were kids. Did you forget the birthday gift you gave him? He threw it straight into the trash.”

Of course I remembered, and that was exactly why I dared to use him as an excuse.

“My business has nothing to do with you.”

“Enough.” Grant frowned, his tone turning cold and condescending. “Adrian isn’t someone you can mess with. Careful, or this will blow up in your face.”

I didn’t waste another word.

I pulled my suitcase toward the door.

This time, he didn’t stop me.

He just stood there, his cold voice following me from behind.

“You really think Adrian would want you? Other people might not know, but he does. He knows I fucked you for five years.”

“If you go to him, he’ll humiliate you. He’ll laugh in your face. And when you get hurt, you’ll still come crawling back to me.”

The air froze, and my whole body went stiff as my blood rushed to my head, then drained away.

In this world, only Grant knew exactly where to cut.

Only his blade could hit the weakest part of me.

I turned around to face him, only to see that same smug, entitled look on his face, like he was almost amused by it all.

I raised my hand and slapped him hard across the face.

Grant’s head turned to the side.

A red mark rose on his pale skin.

He froze for a few seconds.

Then he slowly turned back.

His tongue pushed against his cheek, and his eyes turned frighteningly dark.

“Fine. You’ve got nerve.”

He spoke through clenched teeth.

“Listen to me, Harper. Girls like you don’t get many chances to crawl back.”

I didn’t look at him again.

I tightened my grip on the suitcase and shoved past him without turning back.
