He Wanted an Open Relationship, So I Accepted Another Proposal Chapter 01

After carrying me to bed, my boyfriend, Grant Whitmore, suddenly pulled me into his arms.

“Babe, your roommate’s kinda hot. Send me her Instagram?”

I froze and turned my head as he pulled the blanket over me, looking as casual as if he had said nothing cruel.

“We’re going to get married someday anyway. Doesn’t being with one person forever get old? I’m not giving up every other girl for one.”

I stared at him for a few seconds, pushed his hand away, and nodded calmly.

The day I moved out, he blocked me in the entryway, his frown deepened, and he looked like he was about to lose his temper.

“Harper Carter, didn’t we agree we could have an open relationship? Why are you throwing a fit?”

I bent down and picked up my suitcase. “No. I’m old-fashioned that way.”

Later, when he was finally done playing around, he came back for me.

I looked down at the wedding ring on my finger and smiled. “Sorry. I don’t give second chances.”

There were plenty of choices out there, and if this one wasn’t worth keeping, I could choose another.

Either way, I deserved the best.

Grant got Maddie Blake’s Instagram, just like he wanted.

He was in a good mood, so the sharp lines of his abs and the faint V-line above his hips.

I pressed my palm to his chest and pushed him away.

Then I got out of bed and picked my clothes off the floor.

My head buzzed with those careless words he had just said.

My hands kept trembling, and I fumbled with my buttons several times.

Grant leaned against the headboard, relaxed and amused, watching me with one brow raised. “What’s wrong?”

At some point, the thin blanket had slipped from his waist, revealing his defined abs and the sharp V-line cutting down his hips.

The marks I had left on his shoulder were still there.

Under the warm bedside lamp, they looked painfully bright.

I looked away. “I’m going back to the dorm.”

“Harper, stop throwing a fit. It’s late.”

“I have an 8 a.m. class.”

Grant clicked his tongue.

He sat up and caught my wrist with one long arm. “Come on. You’ve stayed over plenty of times. I’ll drive you to class tomorrow.”

I pressed my lips together, said nothing, and yanked my hand free.

I walked to the nightstand and swept my tablet and charger into my bag before zipping it shut.

Grant had never been patient.

He had only been gentle earlier because he was in a good mood and had just gotten what he wanted.

Now that I wouldn’t budge, his face cooled at once.

He leaned back against the headboard and lit another cigarette. “Do whatever you want. I’m not driving you. You’re the one being difficult. If something happens, that’s on you.”

It felt like someone dumped ice water over my head, and the cold sank straight through me.

I clenched my jaw and swallowed the bitterness in my throat.

I swallowed the trembling too.

“Don’t worry. I don’t need you anymore.”

Then I grabbed my bag and walked out.
