He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 11

I looked at him, my voice flat.

“Rhett, do you truly think I would hurt a child? Or are you just taking your anger out on me because you failed to protect your precious ‘Walker heir’?”

His expression froze, as if my words had pierced the ugliest part of him.

But he quickly masked the flicker of doubt with an even deeper coldness.

“Apologize,” he repeated, his tone final.

I didn’t move.

The two foremen took their cue. One on each side, they grabbed my arms and roughly forced me to my knees.

My palms and knees slammed onto the hardwood floor, grinding into the broken glass. A sharp, searing pain shot through me, so intense I could barely breathe.

Finally, the words “I’m sorry” were forced through my clenched teeth, faint as a sigh.

Only then did Rhett wave the foremen away. He crouched down, took out his handkerchief, and tried to wipe the blood from my palm.

His movements were gentle. His eyes were focused, as if he actually cared.

But my heart was still.

“I made you admit you were wrong because Beau needs to know that actions have consequences,” he said, his tone a condescending sort of gentle. “You’ll be his mother, in name. If you can’t admit when you’re wrong, what will he learn from you?”

I said nothing, just turned my gaze to the black night outside the window.

Rhett sighed, gripped my wrist, and forced me to look at him.

“Ellie, Beau’s existence won’t affect your position in this family.”

He paused, as if bestowing a great gift.

“But to take better care of him, I’ve decided to let Daisy stay.”

“The master bedroom will be for her and the boy. You can move into the guest room.”

I slowly turned my head and looked at his face, so serious as he discussed the new arrangements, and found it all unbearably absurd.

“Rhett, no matter how you arrange the rooms, she is still the woman you had an affair with.”

“And that child is still the one you had with her.”

“Those facts don’t disappear just because you swap bedrooms.”

The next second, Rhett slapped me hard across the face.
