He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 10

His question was a poisoned whip across my face.

I looked at him calmly, my gaze passing over him to the trembling woman hiding behind him.

“You should ask Daisy. She’s the one who pinched him.”

Daisy immediately shook her head in terror, clinging to Rhett’s arm.

Seeing my refusal to confess, Rhett’s expression darkened. He lowered his head and patted Daisy’s hand soothingly. When he looked up again, the contempt in his eyes was palpable.

At the family meeting, everyone questioned me. Only Rhett stood in front of me and declared, “If she says she didn’t do it, then she didn’t do it.”

There had been no evidence then, either.

But he had been willing to believe me.

Now, in a room fitted with security cameras, where the truth was a button-press away, he wouldn’t even give me the benefit of the doubt.
