He Wanted a Nanny, I Returned As the Alpha King’s Luna Chapter 10

The hospital room door was thrown open.

David burst in, with Leo right behind him.

Both of their eyes were bloodshot, their faces a frantic mix of panic and overwhelming joy, as if I’d been gone for an eternity.

“Georgia!”

David rushed to my bedside, his trembling hands cupping my face as he stared at me without blinking.

“Mommy…”

Leo stood at the foot of the bed, his small body rigid, his lip caught between his teeth. His eyes were red, and I could see tear tracks on his cheeks.

A pang of guilt hit me. I knew David must have taken his anger out on him.

“Leo, sweetheart, come here.” I held out my hand to him.

He didn’t move. He just lowered his head.

“I didn’t protect Mommy. It’s my fault…”

“Leo,” I looked at my son, my heart aching. “Baby, it’s not your fault. Mommy chose to protect you, okay?”

I shot a glare at David.

He looked guilty for a second before burying his face in the crook of my neck. “I’m sorry… I lost my mind.

When I saw you lying in a pool of blood, I…” His voice broke.

And just like that, the two of them sobbed in my arms.

When it came to us, the fearsome Alpha King was heartbreakingly fragile.

A week later, I was finally cleared to leave the hospital.

While David was handling the discharge paperwork, I was packing my things in the room. Just then, the door opened.

To my surprise, it was Mattew.

He was covered in wounds, his face pale, all of his old swagger gone. But the suit he wore was clean and perfectly pressed.

It was the one I had custom-made for him, the one he was supposed to wear at our mating ceremony.

“What are you doing here?” I asked coldly.

“Georgia Mattew’s voice was hoarse “I had to see you.”

I ignored him, about to call for security.

“Wait!” he said, his voice urgent. “Give me three minutes. Just three minutes.”

“I just wanted to tell you that I still love you.”

I actually laughed out loud.

“What did you say?”

“I said, I still love you.” Mattew took a step forward, his eyes burning with a feverish intensity. “I’ve been regretting everything. I keep thinking about when we were together, how you only had eyes for me… I

know I failed you. I just wanted to apologize…”

“That’s enough,” I cut him off, disgusted. “I don’t need your apology. Do you think putting on this suit magically turns back time? Stop dreaming.” I shattered his fantasy without a second thought. “I don’t

love you anymore. I don’t care what you do.”

BANG!

The door was kicked open.

David stood in the doorway, his eyes dangerously cold.

“Take him.”

Guards immediately rushed in and seized Mattew.

“David!” Mattew struggled. “You think you’ve won?”

“She’ll never truly love you!” he screamed wildly. “You’re nothing but a replacement for me, her Fated Mate! She only married you to get back at me!”

“You’ll always be a substitute!”

A guard clamped a hand over his mouth and dragged him out. His muffled shouts echoed down the

hallway.

The room fell silent.

I turned to David, ready to explain, but I saw a flash of raw pain in his eyes.

“David…”

“Let’s go home,” he interrupted me, his voice barely a whisper.

He didn’t say a word the entire way back.

For the next few days, I tried to talk to David about what happened, but he kept avoiding me.

Then, in his study, I stumbled upon a stack of photos of myself in a drawer

There was one of me at my coming-of-age ceremony at fifteen, wearing a white dress, my smile shy

There was another of me at eighteen, at my first pack hunt, laughing with confidence.

Next to every photo was a date and a short, handwritten note.

“She smiled today. It was beautiful.”

“She got first place on her exam. I wanted to congratulate her, though she doesn’t know me.”

“She was crying alone in the park. I wanted to comfort her, but I didn’t dare.”

Tears streamed down my face before I even realized it.

“You saw them.”

David’s voice came from behind me. I turned to see him standing in the doorway, his face pale.

“I’m sorry,” he said in a low voice. “I know it’s creepy. Taking pictures of you, keeping a log of your life…

I’m a monster. A stalker.”

“I’m not your Fated Mate. I’m just your second choice, your substitute… If you want to leave, I…”

I watched as the pain on his face grew with every word, even as he forced himself to sound understanding. This mighty Alpha King looked like a little boy who’d been caught doing something

wrong.

“You idiot.” I couldn’t stop myself. I ran to him and threw my arms around him. “Who said you were a

second choice?”

“You are my mate. My one and only. You’re not a substitute for anyone.”

“And as for these photos,” I kissed his troubled eyes, trying to soothe him, “I’m so happy. I’m happy you’ve loved me for so long. It makes me feel… cherished.”

David’s eyes reddened.

“You don’t… find me disgusting?” his voice trembled.

“The only thing I find disgusting is how foolish you are,” I said with a small laugh. “If you loved me this

much, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

“I was scared,” he whispered. “I was scared that if you found out the truth, you’d think I was terrifying.”

“I was scared you’d find out I’d been watching you for ten years.”

“I was scared you’d realize that meeting you, marrying you… it was all planned.”

Chapter 10

“I was scared… that you didn’t love me.”

He said the last words so softly, but they hit me like a hammer to the heart.

“You fool,” I hugged him tighter. “Of course I love you.”

“Georgia…”

He buried his face in my neck, his voice thick with emotion. “I love you. I really… I really love you.”

I felt something warm and wet fall onto my shoulder.

This cold, ruthless Alpha King had finally let down all his walls for me.

In that moment, our hearts were finally, completely, one.
