He Waited for Me at the Border, I Already Left the Country Chapter 07

His tears finally fell.

I watched him cry and felt nothing at all.

In the past, seeing him frown for a second would have broken my heart.

Now he stood in front of me with tears on his face, and I felt as if I were looking at a stranger.

“My mother is still in there. The doctor said she can’t survive another episode like this.”

“Adrian, if my mother doesn’t wake up, tell me, who am I supposed to turn to?”

He looked toward the ICU doors, his face as pale as the wall.

I shook my head. “You? I asked you for four thousand dollars, and you made me wait three days.”

“I transferred it,” he said, his voice tight.

My voice suddenly rose. “By the time you transferred it, I had borrowed money from six friends and made more than a dozen calls. Do you know how many people I had to beg?”

“Do you know what I was thinking when I borrowed that money? I was thinking, It’s okay. Adrian will send it. I was still making excuses for you.”

“All these years, I poured every dollar and every piece of myself into you. What did I get back?”

The ICU door opened, and a nurse leaned out. “Elena? Your mother is awake. She wants to see you.”

I stepped toward the room.

Behind me, Adrian called my name, his voice so hoarse it barely sounded like him. “Elena, I can

explain.”

I did not look back.

“I don’t need it anymore.”

On the ER bed, my mother still looked weak, but her chest rose and fell.

She was alive.

“Mom.” I walked over and held her hand. It was cold.

She struggled to open her eyes and looked at me, as if she wanted to say something to comfort me.

“It’s okay,” I said, my nose stinging. “It’s okay. I can handle everything.”

Her fingers moved slightly and brushed gently against my face.

When I was little and fell down, she used to comfort me just like that.

I collapsed beside the bed and cried until my whole body shook.

Over the next few days, I took care of my mother while preparing everything I needed to clear my

name.

The message history, the bank transfer records, the things Adrian had said at the late-night grill, and everything between him and Sienna.

I organized every detail, word by word, and posted it online.

Afraid no one would see it, I reached out to several bloggers and social media accounts to help share

The title was, [Eight Years. I Waited. Now I’m Done.]

After posting it, I fell asleep leaning against my mother’s bed.

My phone buzzed all night. When I woke up, the screen was hot.

At first, the comment section had been full of insults toward me, but slowly, the tide began to turn.

“This guy looks so honest, but why is every message from him so dismissive?”

“I added up eight years of expenses. This woman really loved him blind.”

“Wait? Wait for what? I watched the video. What kind of absolute garbage is this guy?”

Some people questioned whether I had made it all up.

But my timeline was clear, one piece after another, and every detail was backed by evidence.

More and more people went straight to Adrian’s and Sienna’s accounts.
