He Used His Secret Mistress for Revenge Chapter 08

He Used His Secret Mistress for Revenge Chapter 08 The Hair Tie at the Airport

I kept a low profile throughout the journey, avoided the crowds, and flew home alone.

When I entered the international airport’s arrivals hall, I never imagined I would walk directly into Vito.

My first instinct was that he had discovered my trail and had stationed men at the airport to capture me

I immediately turned my body away, lowered my head, and tried to escape before he saw my face.

After only two steps, I forced myself to calm down.

Everyone in the city believed I had died at sea.

A recovered body and a DNA match had confirmed it.

No one would imagine that I was still alive.

There was no reason to panic.

I slowed down and joined a line of passengers waiting for security screening.

As I listened to the bodyguards beside me, I finally understood why Vito was there.

For years, he had kept one of my thin black hair ties around his wrist.

He had lost it the previous day while handling a shipment belonging to his family.

That hair tie was the only small possession of mine still in his hands, and it had become precious to him.

Vito had mobilized every resource in his organization and locked down the entire airport.

Every traveler entering or leaving was being checked until the hair tie was recovered.

Relief loosened my chest.

I pulled my hat lower and waited while security inspected my belongings, doing everything possible to keep my face hidden.

The staff searched my bag and coat item by item.

When one guard reached my wrist, a Moretti bodyguard suddenly noticed the identical black hair tie I had used to hold back a loose strand of hair.

He rushed forward, tore it from my wrist, and shouted toward Vito.

“Godfather, we found it! The hair tie is here!”

Several men in black immediately surrounded me.

They forced me facedown onto the floor, locked my arms behind me, and prevented me from moving.

Panic exploded inside me.

I twisted my face to the side, desperate to avoid Vito’s gaze.

Heavy footsteps approached the security area.

Vito’s expression was dark and terrifying, and restrained violence surrounded him.

He took the familiar hair tie from the bodyguard.

Then he crouched, clamped his rough hand around my jaw, and forced my face upward.

Our eyes met.

The darkness on Vito’s face vanished instantly.

Wild joy replaced it.

His eyes reddened, and moisture gathered in them.

“Laila? It really is you. You’re alive.”

He spun around and kicked the bodyguards away from me.

Then he pulled me from the freezing floor and crushed me against his chest with enough force to almost fuse me into his bones.

Vito trembled with overwhelming emotion.

Inside me, there was nothing.

No excitement.

No longing.

No love.

Only cold, numb distance.

I pushed against his chest until he released me.

Without raising my eyes, I spoke with detached politeness.

“Sir, you’ve mistaken me for someone else. I don’t know you. Please keep your distance and show some restraint.”

The words struck him like ice water.

All the joy disappeared from his face.

Vito stumbled back two steps.

His hand remained suspended in the air, but he no longer dared to touch me.

I had no interest in staying.

1 collected my suitcase, walked quickly out of the terminal, hailed a cab, and gave the driver the address of my family’s estate.
