He Turned My Love Into a Grave Chapter 11

The Hale family stood frozen under Silas’s cold fury. No one dared to breathe.

He demanded who authorized the obituary.

Elara’s uncle Jason Voss stepped forward. “Silas, Elara is gone. My brother and his wife, they’re broken. They’ve already left. All we want is to let her rest in peace. No more chaos. We’re making funeral arrangements.”

Silas looked up. A glacial light cut into the man. He didn’t waste words. His voice carried absolute authority. “Pull the obituary. Elara isn’t dead. Until I find her, no one holds a funeral.”

He turned and left.

Behind him, disgusted murmurs rippled through the room. “Who does Silas think he is? He won’t even let us hold a funeral. He uses the Voss name to stomp on everyone, cheats on Elara, and gets her killed.”

“So now the entire Hale family answers to him? This is insane.”

Someone scoffed. “Exactly. When Elara was alive, he was screwing around with a mistress and a secret child. Now she’s dead, and suddenly he’s the grieving husband? He can’t even accept she’s gone. The performance is sickening.”

“If you ask me, he should be the one in the ground.”

Jason gathered up the funeral arrangements, his movements heavy with defeat. He waved a tired hand.

“Enough. The Voss family holds all the cards. Before, Elara could shield us. Now that she’s gone, going against them would be suicide. Just accept it. Pack everything up. Pull the obituary. Now.”

Minutes later, the solemn memorial hall was dismantled, restored to its former state.

He was carrying an armload of Elara’s clothes when his phone buzzed. An unfamiliar international number. He answered.

A quiet voice came through. “Uncle Jason, Mom and Dad are safe here with me. How are things back home? Does Silas suspect anything?”

He tightened his grip on the phone and let out a cold snort. “Suspect? No. But he refuses to believe you’re dead. He forced us to retract the obituary. Won’t even allow a funeral. The man’s a tyrant.”

“That’s not all. He’s pulled every string he has. Search teams are still tearing up the ocean. The way he’s going, he won’t stop until he finds you.”

Elara sighed. She’d expected this. Silas wouldn’t be easy to convince. That’s exactly why she’d chosen to drive off the cliff. It gave her time to escape. And it gave him time to slowly let her go.

Now all she could do was wait. Wait for Silas to lose hope. To accept she was never coming back. Then she’d be free.

“Just let him do whatever he wants. As long as he can’t find me, he’ll give up eventually. Just please—don’t reveal where I am. If he finds out, the whole family’s in danger.”

Jason nodded firmly, his voice soft with reassurance. “Elara, take care of yourself. Start fresh. Don’t worry about us—”

A sharp crack. The phone flew from his hand as he crashed to the ground.

He’d turned and walked straight into a pair of dark, merciless eyes.

Silas stared down at him, a faint, dangerous smile on his lips.

The man trembled, paralyzed.

Silas bent down and picked up the shattered phone. Elara’s confused voice drifted through the speaker, distant and impossibly sweet.

“Hello? What happened? Uncle, what’s going on?”

Static buzzed in his ear.

Silas raised an eyebrow and laughed—a sound completely devoid of warmth. “Sweetheart, you’ve been lying to me this whole time.”
