He Turned My Love Into a Grave Chapter 09

Silas arrived at the children’s hospital. Cole lay in an incubator, sleeping peacefully, completely unharmed.

Silas turned to Lila. “Alright. Cole’s safe. That’s what matters. Elara’s reckless, but she’d never hurt an innocent child. Let’s put this to rest.”

Lila saw it—that flicker of protectiveness Silas still held for Elara. She couldn’t swallow it. Her tears spilled over as she lashed out. “Silas, what is so special about her that you keep defending her? She slept with another man. She nearly had me deported—”

“Enough.” Silas’s voice cut like a whip. “The child is fine. And I betrayed Elara first. I already punished her. Stop pushing.”

Lila’s mouth snapped shut. She didn’t dare say another word.

The next few days, Silas stayed with her and the baby, soothing them. Then his phone lit up with an emergency alert. Vehicle collision detected.

His eyes sharpened. He tapped the notification.

The car was the one he’d left at the Discipline Quarters days ago. No one had started it since.

A cold unease slithered through his chest.

He called his assistant. “Confirm whether Mrs. Voss is home safe. And check for any major accidents.”

Half an hour later, the assistant returned. “Sir, after her punishment, Mrs. Voss told the guards she was going to the hospital. No reports since then. There’s no news of any major crash. Maybe it was a system glitch?”

Hospital. “How hard did you hit her? A small punishment would’ve been enough. Who told you to go that far? Do you want to die?”

The assistant turned pale, trembling. “It was the security team. She should be fine. She went to the hospital. Superficial wounds.”

Silas’s expression eased slightly. He frowned, set down his phone, and lay beside Lila.

But the unease didn’t leave. It grew in the heavy silence of the night, swelling into something unbearable.

He opened Elara’s message thread and typed rapidly.

[You back from the hospital yet?]

[You asleep? Still hurting? Those idiots don’t know their own strength. When I get back, I’ll deal with them.]

[About the kidnapping—I’m letting it go. But that child inside you? When you’re healed, get rid of it. After that, we’ll be a family. Just us. Okay?]

[Elara?]

His pale eyes locked onto the screen. Ten minutes passed. Twenty.

Nothing.

Irritation flared. He got up, not caring if he woke Lila, and dialed Elara’s number.

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable…”

Restlessness surged through him. He paced out of the room and kept calling. Again. And again.

He even called Elara’s father.

The line stayed dead. Cold mechanical tones. That was when the dread truly set in—an icy chill spreading through his veins.

He ordered his assistant to trace Elara’s movements and location.

Ten minutes stretched into an eternity. He rubbed his watch strap over and over, his gaze flicking constantly toward the sluggish hands of the clock.

The assistant came back breathless. “Sir, I found it. The day she was punished, she took that Bentley. Its last location was near the Coastal Docks.”

“What was she doing there? She said she was going to the hospital.”

The assistant shook his head, lost.

Silas stood. He didn’t want to waste another second. Lila grabbed his sleeve. “Silas, don’t go. I’m scared. Stay with me.”

Before, he might have chosen Lila first. But tonight, Elara should have been home. The car had triggered a collision alert, yet no insurance claim was filed. It was too strange. Too wrong. Why would she abandon the car there?

Only one possibility filled his mind. She’d ditched the vehicle and fled.

“I can’t lose her.”

“Stay here. If you’re bored, go find something to do at my company.”

He shook off Lila’s hand without a backward glance.

By the time he reached the location, a blur of flashing lights filled his vision. He stepped out. An officer blocked his path. “You can’t go any further. There’s been an accident.”

Silas’s body went rigid. He forced the words out one by one. “What kind of accident?”

“Vehicle lost control and went over the cliff. No survivors.”

Silas staggered. His brain detonated.
