He Turned My Exam Into a Joke, I Turned the Page Chapter 14

There were always snacks from back in the States appearing in my drawer.

“Whoa!” Jenna’s eyes lit up. “These are so hard to find here. Where did you get them?”

I glanced at Luke.

Then I casually stuffed all the snacks into Jenna’s arms.

“They’re all yours.”

Luke’s body went stiff. He lowered his head and walked out of the classroom.

His attempts to please me included, but were not limited to, packing lunch for me, doing my

assignments for me, and secretly slipping his organized study notes into my drawer before

exams.

Luke knew very well that I did not want anyone to know what kind of relationship we used to

have.

So he always waited until no one was around before he dared to say a few words to me.

“Sienna, wait for me.”

Luke caught up to me, out of breath.

“I… I found a flower shop a couple of days ago. It’s huge, and they have all kinds of flowers.

We could go take a look…”

Before he could finish, a loud whistle cut him off.

“Babe!”

A sports car stopped at the curb.

The blond-haired, blue-eyed boy sitting inside waved at me.

“Come on. The concert’s about to start.”

I ignored the nearly heartbroken look in Luke’s eyes beside me.

I opened the car door and got into the passenger seat.

“Stop by the garden center first. I want to buy some seeds to fill in the little garden.”

“OK.”

The sports car roared away, leaving Luke with nothing but a mouthful of exhaust.

By the time the concert ended, it was almost eleven.

Leo drove me home, kissed my cheek, and ruffled my hair as if he were petting a kitten.

“See you tomorrow.”

His car disappeared around the corner.

I turned around and was about to open the front door when I vaguely heard someone crying off to the side, trying to hold it in.

I walked over and saw someone sitting on the stone steps. The streetlight stretched his shadow long and lonely across the road.

Luke had buried his face in his hands.

He had cried until no sound came out anymore.

“Luke,” I said.

Only then did he lift his head. His eyes were so swollen and red they barely looked like themselves.

“Sienna.” He staggered to his feet.

When he came closer, I smelled alcohol on him.

“What else can I do? Tell me. Please, just tell me.”

Tears fell one by one.

But they could not stir even the slightest ripple in my heart.

“I’ve tried everything, but you still don’t want me.”

“What am I supposed to do?”

“I lie awake all night. The second I close my eyes, I see you. I keep waiting for morning,

waiting to go to school so I can see you, but once I do, I don’t even know how to talk to you.

I’m afraid you’ll get annoyed if I say too much, but if I say too little, I’m afraid things between

us will only get worse.”

“I…”

His voice broke.

His choking sobs turned into quiet crying, then into full, uncontrollable weeping.

“Luke, this isn’t love,” I said.

“This is torture.”
