He Turned Me Down, So I Dated His Best Friend Instead Chapter 05

My thoughts snapped back to the present.

I pressed my palms to my cheeks and wiped away the tears.

I was about to head to the library.

But just as I reached the door,

Mia Parker came back.

The moment she saw me, she seemed to remember something. She walked over with a

conspiratorial look.

“Claire.”

“Do you know who the guy from Hartwell Confessions is?”

I shook my head. “No.”

I hadn’t accepted his message request.

I didn’t even know his name.

Mia patted my shoulder. “Well, I did some digging.”

“Apparently, he’s Julian’s childhood friend. They’re really close. He doesn’t go here, though. He’s

at Fenwick University.”

“And from what I’ve heard, he’s gorgeous, loaded, and from another influential family.”

I paused, but I still wasn’t especially interested.

“I’m not looking for a relationship right now.”

She looked surprised. “Why not?”

I gave her the first excuse that came to mind. “Maybe after graduation.”

But that night,

he sent two more messages through the same request.

[Still going to leave me pending?]

[I’m out of town for a competition right now. When I get back, can we meet before you decide whether to accept my request?]

I stared at the screen, ready to turn him down outright.

Then another message appeared.

[You don’t have to answer now. We can talk when we meet. Good night.]

I stared at the words

for a long time.

In the end, I said nothing and turned off my screen.
