He Tore Out My Walk-In Closet for Another Woman, So I Sold the Home and Canceled the Wedding Chapter 09

One month later, the Belltown condo was sold.

The buyers were a young couple who had recently gotten married.

When they toured the place, they could barely believe the price was so low.

The real estate agent only told them the owner wanted a quick sale.

They didn’t ask any more questions and soon signed the contract.

When it was time to finalize the sale through the title company, Ethan stood inside the condo for

long time.

A framed print he’d once hung on the wall himself was still there.

He didn’t take it down.

The new buyers asked if he wanted to take it with him.

“No. There’s no point keeping it.”

After everything was finished, Ethan stood in the doorway and looked back one last time.

The home where we’d planned to start our married life now truly belonged to someone else.

Then he remembered what I’d told him I wanted when we bought it.

“I want a huge walk-in closet and big windows. I’d love to wake up to sunlight every morning.”

He’d said, “Okay.”

But later, to give Sophia a bigger room, he tore out my walk-in closet and cut my bedroom in half.

Looking back, maybe that was when I stopped believing we had a future.

Ethan had never paid enough attention to notice the change in me.

He’d missed it completely.

He drove back to the apartment where we’d been living.

The lights were still off.

In the month since I left, he’d rarely turned them on or done much of anything.

Most days, he just sat there alone.

His phone lit up with a message from Sophia.

“Ethan, are you okay? I know you must be hurting now that Erin is gone. But you need to take care

of yourself.”

Her message only annoyed him.

He sent one reply.

“Don’t contact me again.”

Then he blocked her.

That was when he finally understood why I’d blocked him.

It wasn’t hatred.

I’d been disappointed for so long that, in the end, I no longer wanted to explain or argue.

Ethan lay down on the sofa and closed his eyes.

Memories of our old life kept coming back.

He remembered me waiting for him to come home, opening my arms for him to hold me, and sitting at the kitchen island telling him every little thing that had happened that day.

The memories were still clear.

But that life was over.
