He Took Her To The Island We Planned To Marry Chapter 06

For an entire month, Rowan had failed to reach Seraphine.

Every phone call ended in the same cold busy signal. Every text bounced back with Message Failed

to Deliver.

He sat alone on the oversized hotel bed, staring at his screen for a long time before finally tossing the phone aside in irritation.

He was angry.

Angry at Seraphine for being unreasonable.

For acting out.

For forcing things too far this time.

Because Rowan knew her too well.

As long as he went back and softened his attitude a little, she would eventually come running back into his arms the way she always did.

That had always been how things worked between them.

But this time…he didn’t want to indulge her anymore.

Knock Knock Knock.

Someone was at the door.

Rowan got up and opened it.

Brielle stood outside wearing thin sleepwear, messy hair falling around her shoulders, a pillow clutched tightly in her arms.

“Chief…”

Her voice trembled slightly, like she had been crying.

“I… I can’t sleep alone. I keep having nightmares.”

She looked up at him pitifully.

“Can I stay here for a little while?”

Rowan instinctively started closing the door.

“That’s inappropriate, Brielle, Go back to your own room.”

“Please, Chief!”

She grabbed the doorframe immediately, eyes shining with tears.

“I’m really scared. I’ve hated sleeping alone since I was a kid.”

“I can sleep on the floor. I swear I won’t bother you.”

Looking at her like that, Rowan eventually softened.

He sighed and stepped aside.

“Fine. Come in. I’ll take the floor.”

Brielle climbed obediently onto the bed, wrapping herself tightly in the blanket until only her bright eyes remained visible.

The room fell silent.

In the darkness, only the sound of their breathing remained.

“Chief… are you asleep?”

Brielle’s voice sounded unusually clear in the dark, carrying a barely hidden excitement.

“Yeah,” Rowan answered flatly, turning over with his back facing the bed.

“But today’s summit was seriously amazing,” she continued softly. “I still can’t believe someone at his level would actually-”

She kept talking.

Normally, Rowan found that kind of youthful energy refreshing.

Lively.

Comforting, even.

But tonight, her voice grated on him for some reason, wearing down his patience little by little.

It made him inexplicably irritated.

Frowning, Rowan reached for his phone.

The cold glow of the screen cut through the darkness.

He called Seraphine again, only to be met with the same cold busy signal. She still had him blocked.

A wave of frustration crashed over him instantly.

Brielle seemed to notice the shift in his mood. Her voice grew quieter.

“Is Seraphine still not answering?”

“Do you think something happened?”

Rowan’s grip tightened around the phone.

Eyes closed, he answered in a low, tired voice filled with forced indifference.

“Forget about her.”

“She just needs time to cool off. She’ll get over it in a few days.”

Brielle finally fell silent.

The room sank back into dead quiet.

Two days later, Rowan was organizing documents when his phone suddenly rang.

The second he answered, an alcohol-soaked voice exploded through the speaker.

“Rowan, you’re seriously unbelievable!”

“We haven’t seen each other much these past few years, but come on-we used to share a damn dorm room. And you don’t even invite me to your wedding?”

“I only found out because of Seraphine’s Instagram posts!”

Rowan froze.

His fingers tightened around the phone.

“What posts?”

“You mean Seraphine?” His voice sharpened instantly. “Send them to me.”

The other man immediately sensed something was off.

“…Wait. You didn’t know?”

An awkward pause followed.

“I thought… never mind. I’ll send them.”

A few seconds later, several screenshots arrived.

Rowan opened the first image.

Tagged location: Evershore Island.

The first photo showed water so blue it barely looked real, sunlight shimmering across the surface like glass.

The second was the golden sunset pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows of a luxury oceanfront resort.

The third showed elegant wedding favor boxes tied with ribbons.

The fourth-

Seraphine and Odessa standing together in white bridal gowns.

And the fifth…

A back view of Seraphine alone on the beach.

She wore a white wedding dress while ocean wind lifted her veil behind her like wings preparing to open.

“She’s unbelievable.”

The more Rowan looked, the angrier he became.

The more absurd everything felt.

After eight years together, Seraphine should have known exactly what he hated most.

Manipulation.

Threats.

Heat rushed to Rowan’s head as he blocked Seraphine’s number and messages in one furious motion.

After a brief hesitation, he opened Odessa’s contact too.

Then deleted it.

“If she wants to disappear so badly, then fine.”

“Let’s see how she pulls off a wedding with no groom.”
