He Thought I Couldn’t Hear His Lies, I Heard Every Word Chapter 07

It had been a long time since I’d seen Gavin and Lily, and I had never seen either of them look this wrecked.

Gavin had always carried himself like a prince, calm and composed no matter what he was doing. But now his hair was hanging loose and messy around his face, his eyes were bloodshot, and dark circles shadowed

the skin beneath them.

Lily had always been spotless, bright and pretty like a little princess. Now she was covered in mud and

looked like a wild child.

I had no intention of speaking to them, but I hadn’t expected them to rush straight at me.

Gavin clung to me tightly and started sobbing uncontrollably. “Why did you leave me behind and disappear?

You knew how I felt.”

“Autumn, I love you. I really, really love you. Without you, I’ll die.”

“Mom, why don’t you want me anymore? Mom!”

The children sitting below all turned to stare at us. Panic flashed through Ethan’s eyes, and he froze, not

knowing what to do.

I felt a wave of irritation rise in me. Frowning, I shoved both Gavin and Lily away.

“Mr. Bennett, please watch yourself,” I said coldly. “We have no relationship anymore, so don’t give other people the wrong idea.”

Disbelief flooded Gavin’s face, and his eyes widened.

Then he forced out a smile. “Don’t do this, Autumn.”

“You chased me for three years. We lived together for seven. How many decades does a person get in one

lifetime?”

“I know you’re angry because of what I did. I know I was wrong. I really do.”

As he spoke, he looked at me with deep affection.

“You spent three years chasing me once, so I’ll spend ten chasing you if I have to. I’ll keep going until you forgive me.”

“My love for you is real. I’ll love you forever.”

Listening to him make those promises to my face, all I felt was nausea and disgust.

“Maybe someone out there would forgive you and still give you a chance after you had a child with another woman.”

“But that woman will never be me.”

“I told you before, if either of us ever chose betrayal, then we would disappear from the other’s life forever.”

“We’re over. And right now, I’m teaching. Leave.”

I had already made myself crystal clear, but Gavin acted as if he hadn’t heard a word. He reached for me

again.

“Autumn, I promise I’ll never betray you again. Let’s just go home.”

“The conditions here are awful. You’ve always lived a pampered life. How could you possibly put up with a place like this?”

Lily hurried to back him up. “Yeah, Mom. It’s dirty here. Come home, and I’ll take a bath with you.”

“I’ll never make you mad again. Let’s go.”

The two of them grabbed me and tried to pull me outside, but I yanked my hands free and let out a cold

laugh.

“Go home? Which home are you talking about?”

“The one where you cheated on me with only a wall between us? The place that was never really my home to

begin with?”

“You keep saying you love me, but when you were cheating, did you think about me at all? Did you think

about the promise we made?”

“And you,” I said, turning to Lily. “When you were helping your father cheat on me, did you ever remember that

I was your mother?”

Under my stare, neither Gavin nor Lily could say a word.

Gavin kept shaking his head, his eyes brimming with tears. Lily was already crying openly.

But looking at them, I felt no pity at all.

If anything, the whole thing only felt more ridiculous.

They had done every single thing they never should have done, and now they were standing here looking pitiful and begging for forgiveness?

So was I supposed to believe that I could openly cheat too, then erase everything afterward by saying I was sorry?

“No, it’s not like that, Mom. It’s not,” Lily cried. “Dad really, really loves you, and I love you too.”

“Please forgive Dad this one time. Please?”

I flung my daughter’s hand off me and said in a voice like ice, “Let go. Both of you make me sick.”

“I’ll say this one last time. Gavin, Lily Bennett, you’re out of my life for good.”

The moment the words left my mouth, both their faces went deathly white, and they collapsed to the floor.
